Advantages: Turns cheese sandwiches into a feast

Disadvantages: Looks and smells weird at first

If you have never had this before it can be a daunting experience. I have given it to foreigners that have never tried anything like it and they are bemused at first. Its a horrible dark colour, has a sweet vinegar like smell, and the 'bits' in the juice are vegetables like carrots, swede, onions, cauliflower, marrows and gherkins.

I'm sure i was just as put off and bemused when i first tried it as a child, but I now love Branston Pickle. For me this is the only accompaniment to a cheese sandwich. Simply get your standard cheese of choice (e.g. Cheddar) and spread a thin layer of Branston Prickle on. Over time you will probably add more and more to your sandwich as you appreciate the unique taste.

I am a rather fussy eater but cannot go through a week without having at least one cheese sandwich with this on it. I've tried it with other food too like ham but i didn't like it. The only other food I occasionally eat this with is pork pies, I alternate a bite of pie with Branston, and a bite with mustard which is a yummy snack.

Summary: A great accompaniment to any English kitchen
