Advantages: Very hot
Disadvantages: Very hot and a little over priced
This was on offer in Sainsburys a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't resist picking up a bottle. I love hot sauces and considering the ingredients were hot chilli and jalapeno, I knew it would be right up my street.
The relish comes in a 380g bottle and cost me 98p although it's usually around £1.28. It's made by the makers of Branston pickle and there are a few other flavours in the range.
On opening the lid you can instantly smell the chilli and to be honest it did make my eyes water a little. The sauce is red in colour because the sauce is tomato based.
I'm no wimp when it comes to hot sauces and I like to be really hot. A lot of the time I am disappointed by the 'hotness' of some of the sauces that I have tried in the past but this definitely wasn't the case with this one. I found that I couldn't have too much spread in a sandwich or on the side of a salad because my face would be really red and my eyes would water. It did taste of tomatoes but the chilli's and jalopeno's overpowered everything.
The relish was a good consistency being quite thick with the chilli seeds being rather visible as you squeeze out the relish.
It's great in burgers, with salads, in sandwiches and I often eat it straight from the bottle. It adds so much flavour to any food and I have also added it to my pasta sauces to give them more flavour and a bit of kick.
This is probably the best relish that I have tried as it satisfies my need for hot things. If you like hot things then I would definitely give this a go! If you don't then leave this well alone because it leaves your mouth burning for ages after consuming it!
100g of this sauce will give you 128 calories, 24.4g of sugar and 0.7g.
Summary: A great relish
