Advantages: good for putting up wallpaper, dogs like it

Disadvantages: yuk!, smelly,, foisty, sticky

I really enjoy a nice crisp, French stick, a selection of cheeses, and a bottle or two of good red wine (French, of course.)

Stilton, Wensleydale (of Wallace and Gromet fame), Edam, Emental, Haloumi and most of the cheeses our local Tesco stocks, suit me quite well.

Most people who write in this category will be telling the reader how wonderful Brie is and how we should all go continental and eat it with a copious supply of red wine to drink. I didn't like it and it was a total waste of money.

I had never actually tried Brie and I was reliably informed that it goes down exceptionally well with crisp bread and red wine. That sounded ideal so off I went to Tesco and purchased an individual cheese wrapped in silver paper. I was really looking forward to enjoying my Brie after dinner.

The smell was quite strong and I noted the thin crust that coated the cheese. I cut a piece off and tasted the sticky, soft cheese at the centre. It was sweet and it clung to my mouth until I took a good drink of the wine to help it down.

The crust had a musty smell and an even stronger foisty taste. I couldn't eat it.

I tried again the next day, after all I had paid good money out for this gourmet treat. I still couldn't stand the taste, or the smell of the rind. By this time the whole thing just turned my stomach over and I resolved myself to the fact that I just wasn't going to eat this.

I offered the whole cheese to my dog who smacked his lips in great appreciation and then asked for more. At least the dog has sophisticated taste buds, I hear you say.

I know it doesn't make me sound very cultured, or in there with the best culinary experts, but I just didn't like it. I much prefer large lumps of Cheddar, Wensleydale, or even Cheshire cheese. I can even go wild at times and buy these with cranberries, or apricot (Marks and Spencers).

My dog is more sophisticated than I am when i
t comes to cheeses, he's well brought up you see!

There again, perhaps he just didn't taste it, as he set what must be a new world record for eating an individual Brie (2 seconds at the most!)

A mature Brie is a true delight still each to their own tastes thats what I say. Have you tried Camembert Jan ?

I'm not too keen on it either, though I'm always willing to give it a second chance if someone else buys it :)
