Advantages: good value for money, delicious.
Disadvantages: popcorn itself is a little to crunchy.
I went to the pictures this morning with my little girl and her best friend. It was a last minute thing. As its her brothers birthday on Tuesday and only just over a month to Christmas I'm on a budget at the moment. I had packed my bag with lots of treats but had forgotten to buy popcorn. Obviously this is what they wanted, and being the daft softie I am, I went out into the foyer to buy some. I asked the girl behind the counter how much it was for a junior popcorn to which she replied £3.65!!!! that's right £3.65. My flabber was gasted I have to say. I decide to get in my car and drive around the corner to the local shop where I purchased a large bag of butterkist popcorn for £1.00.
The best thing about this popcorn was that inside the large outer bag was six snack packs I thought this was a very clever idea because I don't like the children to eat too many sweet things. so this is ideal as it is enough for them to have a nice share, without overeating. Also the individual bags can be easily stored in lunch boxes as a treat. I was very impressed with this smaller snack size concept and when you work it out it costs less than 20p a pack. unbelievable value!!
The taste of the popcorn was gorgeous ( I had to have a snack pack for research purposes) The flavour was toffee and anyone with a sweet tooth will not be disappointed. I have to say I am more of a savoury girl and I prefer salted popcorn but This product certainly scores 10/10 for its flavour. Each individual piece of popcorn is lavishly coated in toffee flavouring. The toffee being very sweet and creamy in taste. The popcorn is very crunchy. infact that is the only criticism, the texture of the popcorn is too hard for my liking. I prefer my popcorn to be a bit softer.
When thinking about the packaging, I would say that the bright red bag is calling you from the shelf when your browsing. It is certainly very eye catching. Obviously the name butterkist is what sold it to me as you know that the name is highly regarded in the popcorn world and therefore you know your buying a good standard product, The main outer bag displays lots of information. It gives you suggestions on how these snack packs could be used. Offering examples such as at the office or on a picnic. It also displays critical information such as the ingredients and allergy advice. Also the nutritional facts are clearly stated. What I found very impressive was that butterkist state on the back of the packets that they have a web site which you can visit to find out latest offers and more about the process of making the popcorn.
I have already touched on the price of this product, but I feel I must say that I think it was tremendous value for money. I do not understand how they can retail this quality product at such a low price.
Finally I would like to say that I am certainly not a skinflint infact my hubby sometimes moans about my over spending. But I really could not justify paying £3.65 for a small pot of popcorn and even if I were a millionaire I still wouldn't buy it just for the principal. I think It is exploitation I really do. So what's it to be? Mass produced low quality popcorn for an extortionate price. Or high quality well known branded toffee flavoured popcorn for £1.00 ? I know which I would choose.
Also I think Its important to mention that the kids loved the popcorn, even mentioning how delicious it was coming home in the car. It was a success and I would certainly buy it again en route to the pictures!!
Summary: how butterkist helped my ever shrinking pocket.
