Advantages: Cadburys , chocolate , tasty , rich , creamy , individually wrapped
Disadvantages: Rather sweet and can get sticky
Now if like me you love chocolate a bit too much , and find Cadbury Crème Eggs keep sitting near the tills begging to be bought and consumed , I may have found a compromise product for you . Namely Cadbury Crème Egg Minis .
For anyone who doesn’t know the usual Cadbury Crème Eggs are :-
About the size of a chicken’s egg .
Individually wrapped in brightly coloured foil .
Start to appear in the shops from Christmas and remain till well after Easter .
Have a thick outer ‘shell’ of rich , thick Cadbury’s , dairy milk chocolate .
This chocolate is thicker at the pointed end .
Inside there is a sweet fondant mixture , which is bright yellow on the inside and white on the outside , to represent an egg . Well almost a boiled egg I suppose .
So what’s the difference with the mini eggs .
For me the only difference is the size . I bought 3 bags of Cadbury Minis weighing 100g a bag for £2.00 , on special offer . The bag is the usual red and purple of crème egg wrappers with the yellow splat on it . Each egg foil wrapper has the same appearance .
You get 9 delicious specimens in each bag . Taking a sample out now to test , it’s a hard job but somebody has to do it , a mini egg is about 11/2 inches by an inch across at it’s widest part ( unlike my ever increasing widest part :))
The foil can be a bit tricky on these minis , but once you manage to peel it back you have a perfect Cadbury Crème Egg in miniature . Now for those of you with petite mouths , that rules me out then , the size of these minis is good . It’s up to you how you eat them .
They are small enough to pop one in your mouth and slowly let it dissolve . If you do this you will firstly get the delicious Cadbury chocolate taste melting away to leave the sweet centre . I think the centre can be a bit sickly , but , as the Minis are only small , they slip down much more easily than the full - size Cadbury Crème Eggs .
These minis would be a good size for children or families to share . I find they are better if slightly refrigerated . This makes them taste better somehow but also prevents them getting sticky . If they get too warm and sticky the foil is a devil to get off and you certainly get sticky hands into the bargain .
After I bought these I did see a recall on the products site . However they are perfectly safe to eat and the recall was because the nut allergy warning had been missed off the packet . Apparently they are part of a production line where nut products pass , so please be careful . Also since the recall they have been a bit scarce but are reappearing now .
Apart from that , the ingredients have a few E numbers , one which colours the yellow fondant .
Fat content isn’t as high as I thought it would be but the sugar makes up for that .
These are made by Cadbury Trebor Bassett , surprise surprise .
Whether you’re a Cadbury Crème Egg virgin or an aficionado I know you’ll love these . They do taste a bit sweeter even than the full-size Crème Eggs but they are still lovely . The bonus is being smaller they are not quite as fattening , assuming you stop at one and not one whole bag . Who am I trying to kid .
Hold it while I just peel one as I’m finishing this review.....................
Hhmmmm that’s better ................................
So to sum up a reasonably priced , tasty and delicious treat which will melt in your mouth and send you to chocolate Heaven .
As I said to my Hubby ‘They won’t last forever Trevor’
And yes that is his name.
Thanks for reading

- 25/03/07 You are right about the foil being difficult, as I left a bag in the car and had to throw them away, cos there was now way that i could remove the the foil as they are too fiddly. But i do love them xx |
