Advantages: Very tasty caramel

Disadvantages: Bit too thin

If there were an award for the longest chocolate bar, Cadbury's 'Curly Wurly' would undoubtedly win hands down. The 19cm long beast was first made in 1971, and a recent poll found it to be the most popular chocolate bar still in production.

Before today, I hadn't had a Curly Wurly in years - but I do have fond memories of buying them with my pocket money from back in my schooldays. These days, you can purchase a 26g Curly Wurly bar for around 25p - although if you're a big fan, the most economical way to buy your Curly Wurlie is in the five bar multipack, which costs 97p from Tesco.

Ingredients

The Curly Wurly contains;
Caramel (69%) (Glucose Syrup, Sweetened Condensed Skimmed Milk, Sugar, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Emulsifiers (Soya Lecithin, E471), Salt, Flavourings), Milk Chocolate (Milk, Sugar, Cocoa Mass, Cocoa Butter, Vegetable Fat, Emulsifiers (E442, E476), and Flavourings).

Taste & Appearance

On opening the colourful wrapper, a rippled stretch of chocolate with several holes running down its length is revealed - it looks a bit like a piece of intertwined rope - albeit edible chocolate intertwined rope!

Inside the chocolate is a non-runny caramel centre which is very chewy (especially when cold) - so watch out for those fillings! Overall, the combination of chocolate and caramel creates a very tasty snack, which is just as good as I remember. That said, the overall thickness of the chocolate is very thin, and it's not a substantial eating experience by any means.

Final Word

I enjoyed my Curly Wurly experience, and found the old-skool Cadbury's snack to be pleasant tasting and not too pricey. That said, I probably won't buy a Curly Wurly again - it's one of those novelty chocolate bars which should only be re-visited due to nostalgic urges.
