Advantages: It's available everywhere

Disadvantages: It's hardly even real chocolate.

That Cadbury’s Dairy Milk is the UK’s favourite chocolate doesn’t say much about British taste. Nowhere else in Europe would this even be called chocolate. Seriously – some countries like France want it’s sale as chocolate made illegal. The cocoa levels are low, the cocoa butter levels are low and partially replaced with other vegetable fat and finally it has too much sugar in it. The result is not real chocolate but more of a chocolate-candy. It’s grainy, very sweet and has an almost cheesy taste in it. It doesn’t melt properly in the mouth like real chocolate and it coats the mouth too much. It’s not exactly vile or anything - I will eat it if I’m hungry and let’s face it, you can’t even buy anything other than this and Galaxy in UK sweet shops. But it’s poor quality chocolate in the scheme of things. It’s on par with Galaxy or common Nestle bars.

Other brands are WAY better. No way should this get 5 stars. Green and Blacks do a reasonable next step up. Lindt another step up and then you get the really decent chocolates by Bonnat, Cluizel, Amedei etc. If you are a fan of chocolate there is no real excuse for eating this gumpf as your preferred brand. All the major supermarkets do proper own brand chocolate in their premium “taste the difference” type ranges. All of them, without exception, blow Cadbury out of the water.

Quite how Cadbury are able to keep on using the cheapest ingredients to produce such a substandard product and have us coming back for more is absurd. But then we also eat McDonalds, drink Carling etc so it’s not surprise. Come on Brits – wake up and start insisting on decent quality goods!

Summary: Amongst the worst chocolate available

No, it's not the same product as artisan chocolate. But so what? I like fishfingers and I like smoked salmon. No reason I can't like Dairy Milk and artisan chocolate. I understand being frustrated by people who won't try anything else - but I have, a lot, and still like DM. Sorry!
