Advantages: Good quality chocolate, Makes a change from a standard Dairy Milk
Disadvantages: Not as good as it could be...
Cadbury's ever expanding product line has expanded once more - this time with the introduction of the new 'Cadbury Dairy Milk with Shortcake Biscuit'. But is this so called 'new' product destined to become another Cadbury classic or more likely to be a passing phase... There's been a few adverts on TV for the new chocolate bar - nothing that memorable, but for those who haven't seen it, it features someone pondering over a vending machine debating whether to go for a biscuit snack or a chocolate bar... being indecisive they press both buttons, and hey presto, the Cadbury Dairy Milk with Shortcake Biscuit appears. The bar itself is easily recognisable as being based on the Cadbury's Dairy Milk - it's covered in the shiny distinctive purple and white packaging - the only difference being that on the left hand bottom corner the packaging is blue in colour and displays the words 'with shortcake biscuit', surrounded by pictures of the little shortcake pieces that you will find inside. Inside, the bar looks just like you'd expect a Dairy Milk to look - the standard sized bar is divided into 6 chunks of milk chocolate, however, especially from the underside, it's distinctly noticeable that this chocolate has lumps! Cadbury's certainly don't skimp on the shortcake pieces - there's plenty in each segment of the chocolate bar. Taste-wise, from the chocolate you get the usual creamy but not too sickly taste expected from Cadbury's chocolate... added to this there is a definite crunch from the added shortcake pieces, however although the crunch is somewhat satisfying, the actual taste to the shortcake seems somewhat bland. The pieces of shortcake are in little round balls, and seem to be the exact same pieces that are used in Boost and Wispa Bite, however the advantage of Boost and Wispa is that although the shortcake adds a crunch, it isn't relied on as a flavour becaus
e of the presence of caramel... In the Dairy Milk with Shortcake Pieces the shortcake almost manages to make eating chocolate a less pleasurable experience! Priced at around the same levels if not the same as standard Dairy Milk's (in most shops), these are certainly worth a try if you fancy something different to a plain bar of chocolate - but if you're after the next best thing, it's unlikely you'll discover it here... Final verdict - 4 stars ****
