Cadbury's Dairy Milk with Shortbread biscuit
I'm not a great fan of Cadbury's Dairy Milk. Well, I mean, I AM a fan (who isn't?), but I find that there are many more chocolates bars that are more interesting than plain old Dairy Milk. So what made me pick this up? Curiosity partly, plus the fact that I like shortbread.
* - Maths Lesson
Firstly, some basic maths (or math if you're American):
Dairy Milk + anything = yummy.
Anything + Shortbread = yummy.
Therefore Dairy Milk + Shortbread = Double yummy
With me so far? Good, then let's begin:
* - Appearance & Smell
A standard size chocolate bar, this is the standard purple colour that adorns all Dairy Milk packaging, with a white wavey stripe on the front, with Dairy Milk written inside. To the right of the packet is what appears to be a blue explosion with the words "with shortcake biscuit" in the middle of what I assume to be shortcake biscuit pieces, but what actually resemble hazelnuts. The back of the packet has a best before date (not that a bar of chocolate is allowed to get anywhere near that date in our house), a barcode and a list of ingredients.
Segmented into six pieces, each with the Cadbury's logo on it, the underside of the bar is bumpy, which a bite into the bar reveals as small round pieces of shortbread biscuit. The smell is that of, surprisingly not chocolate, which I was expecting, but of chocolate shortbread cookies. Yum!
* - Taste, Weight & Cost
The actual taste of the bar is again not chocolatey. There is so much biscuit in the bar that a bite always comes complete with a crunch, and after finishing the bar you'll be wiping off biscuit crumbs from your top!
Weighing in at 49g, this is a fairly light bar of chocolate, and costing around 40p, you get less value than the likes of a Mars, which is ¾ of the price and a fair bit bulkier. That said, you
can dip this chocolate into your tea (whi
ch I am prone to do. Don't look at me like that, it's not THAT unusual!), and it holds up fairly well due to the biscuit in it!
* - Ingredients & Calories
The main ingredient is milk chocolate, which I think is cheating a bit as you've not broken down how much of each ingredient makes up the chocolate, but it's interesting to see that they reckon only 15% of the bar is biscuit. I'd be inclined to say that it was much more!
Each bar has 250kcal, so as always, steer clear when dieting!
* - Overall
Overall, the bar doesn't last long. For me, that means that it's a nice bar, but it could be conceived as a bad point too, I suppose, as you may want to spend your 40p on something that lasts more than two minutes. (please insert your own sex joke in here!) There is just the right balance of biscuit and chocolate without one overpowering the taste of the other, and it's just the right size if you have the mini-munchies. It may not be a Milky Way, but I can't see this ruining your appetite either!
Four stars - It could be bigger, which is probably it's biggest downfall, but once again Cadbury's prove why they are the leading light in the chocolate industry, hitting the nail squarely on the head and making yet another scrummy bar!
