Advantages: Taste; Size
Disadvantages: Chocolate is never going to be healthy
It's not often that I have a chocolate bar but when I do I'm quite partial to a Double Decker. Sold in all good sweet retailers the Double Decker is easy to identify due to its brightly coloured wrapping - a distinctive half Cadbury's purple and half bright orange with the bar's name clearly printed in white. The Double Decker is described by Cadburys as being 'Cadbury milk chocolate with a soft, chewy nougat top and crunchy cereal bottom'. It is a substantial bar weighing in at 60g and costing between 40p and 60p depending on where you place of preference for purchasing chocolate is.
You definitely get a reasonable amount of bar for what you pay, when you open the chocolate up you are greeted by a chocolate bar about six inches and roughly an inch wide and high (sorry not gone fully metric yet). The chocolate on the top of the bar is slightly rippled, more to be aesthetically pleasing than to affect the taste I think. When you bite into the bar the chocolate coating is fairly thin but is the usual milk chocolate provided by Cadburys, I happen to like the taste of this and it doesn't over power the rest of the bar. The top half of the bar is white nougat which is softer and sweeter than the nougat in a Mars bar, it is a pleasantly chewy layer which is nicely complimented by the cereal base layer. This comprises of little pieces of puffed rice (think rice krispies without the brand name) held in place by more Cadburys chocolate. This is a much more solid layer but, obviously, with a crunchy texture. The puffs of rice are consistently crispy; I have never encountered any sogginess or staleness. The cereal layer also works to offset the sweetness of the nougat layer.
All in all the Double Decker is a satisfying experience - the combination of chocolate, nougat and cereal gives variety and the size of the bar means that it will fill a gap nicely. I am of the opinion that these bars have actually got bigger recently. And if you wish to (and you're not in too polite company) you can peel apart the two layers and enjoy them separately giving you two bars for the price of one.
And just in case you wanted reminding how unhealthy chocolate is each bar contains 275 cals and 6.1g of sat fat.
This is one of my all time favourite chocolate bars and my top choice when choosing a chocolate bar to fill me up for a while.
Summary: A top choice chocolate bar
