Advantages: A complete choccy meal in one

Disadvantages: calories but its chocolate so they don't count

Some chocolate goodies on in the shops just seem to have been around for ages, and sadly some have vanished forever.I wonder what is it that makes one chocolate bar unpopular and another more appealing.Could it be the chocolate, the filling or just market forces. Well since there are only a few manufacturers left and it is their products that have in some cases vanished. I'm ruling out the chocolate, so that leaves us the fillings and market forces of which we are considerably a part of.

When I'm in the mood for a choccy treat i often find it difficult to decide which bar to buy. Sometimes a simple Mars Bar is enough. I say simple but lets face it Mars Bars are divine and far from simple. So when I need something perhaps a bit more substantial, what do I choose? Well now the answer is simple. PICNIC

When you analyse the ingredients of a picnic bar its pretty easy to see where the name came from. Peanuts, Chocolate, Wafer Biscuit, Cream Filling, Toffee. And now that I actually see them written down it doesn't nearly look as appetising as it is.

So lets reconstruct it from the basic ingredients and see how it works out. Firstly we have the Wafer Biscuits, so we shall add the Cream filling to them and layer them together. lets also add a bit of the toffee in between layers. Now that's looking pretty good on it's own. I think it would be an idea to add more toffee on top to keep the peanuts in place. Right now we'll put a liberal sprinkling of peanuts over the soft caramel toffee. Finally lets cover the whole scrumptious lot in delicious chocolate.

Doesn't look all that attractive, all bumpy and craggy. Tasting is the only way to tell if we have a success here.

A small bite fills my mouth with all the lovely ingredients, the initial taste is obviously that of the chocolate covering. Delish, not to sweet, Ahhhhh now the caramel is kicking in with the crispy biscuit, nice nutty biscuity taste. The caramel is soft but still fairly chewy. It to is sweet slightly sweeter than the chocolate. What's this an added crunch, There is a slight salty taste as the peanuts merge with the rest of the mouthful, GOD this is good……………. hold on I'm going in for another bite. HELLO HEAVEN the second bite knocks the first bite for six and my taste buds are dancing with glee. **** this is just so good. A mish mash of ingredients and we end up with one scrumptious bar, who would have thunk it EH?

As per usual if you're going to indulge in a chocolate bar the last thing you need to know is what naughty things are in it like calories and the like, so I'm not going to bother with that.

At around 38p per bar they have just got to be a great buy. The only downside is unfortunately for those of you with nut allergies. Obviously they are not suitable for you, and believe me that's really bad luck folks really bad luck indeed. They are pretty much readily available in most supermarkets and newsagents so you shouldn't have any problems getting one, and I strongly recommend that you do.

Summary: Taste and price
