Cadbury's Caramel Freddo Frog
**Where did taz go**
You can get freddo frog original plain milk chocolate or this lovely caramel freddo frog version and the plain version is in a purple wrapper whilst the caramel one is in a yellow wrapper. I have adored these for years and buy them for my little nieces and nephews as well as selfishly for myself. It is made by Cadburys the delightful Willy Wonka of the chocolate makers. I am convinced these used to be called taz in my youth but maybe I am imagining it. There are two reasons why I love freddo caramel frogs: less calories but still fill the chocolate addiction hole and secondly they are 15pence and I am beginning to think paying 60pence for a dairy milk caramel is a bit steep when I can get 4 of these for that! I tend to buy these, the purple ones and Cadburys fudges and curly wurlys in a bundle to share between me and the kids- one for them two for me-isn't it great to share!
**The Appeal**
Freddo frog is a tiny chocolate snack bar shaped like a frog. The caramel version has a chocolate outing mould with soft delicious velvety caramel inside. The wrapper/packaging stands out to attract children and is bright yellow with a frog with a green head and a white top and blue pants. Cadbury is on the top of the wrapper and the 15pence price tag is clear to see. On the other side is the bar code and hidden between back and side is the calorie content.
**The Guilt factor**
There is 100calories per freddo caramel which is a nice round number! It has 1.1g protein, 12.1g carbohydrates of which 10.6g are of sugars. It has 5.0g of fat , 0.0g sodium, o.1g fibre and Cadburys warn only to be enjoyed as part of a healthy active lifestyle. I am active as I walk into the shop to purchase this little beauty and chomp it to pieces in 2 bites! But seriously at 100 calories it isn't a lot and could be worked off easy enough and great for a snack rather than eating a full size bar or a greedy big value chocolate bar!
**Yummy**
So you get a freddy shaped frog perhaps 5cm long and under 1cm thick and under 3cm width. One could feel guilty devouring a freddy shaped chocolate but I never do. I bite the head off first and immediately I can tell it is Cadburys. It tastes yummy and smooth and doesn't stick to the back of your throat or teeth but melts away smoothly. There is not too much caramel in it and it reminds me of the Christmas tree chocolate decorations Cadburys do. It does however taste moresish and you could easily want another 2. In my head I have to think that is 100 calories used up and what I have to do to work off my little froggy treat. Only problem is one bite the head is gone and second bite the body goes so before you know it there is no evidence left of this little chocolate creature. Maybe they should do a bigger version!
**Opinion**
It is Cadburys at its simplest form and a winner for me as it is cheap, cheerful, fun and yummy. It suits all ages and especially good for the kids. Adults can pretend they are buying them for their kids. I rate it 5 out of 5 for taste and value for money and recommend you give it a whirl as you will be taken back to your youth and get your chocolate cravings sorted for less calories.
Summary: Revert back to being a child for a chocolate treat and snaffle up a freddo caramel frog

- 21/06/09 I agree, and they were definitely Taz's back in the day. Just plain chocolate used to be called Freddo's! |

- 21/06/09 I definitely remember Taz too, although there seems to have been a 50% increase in price since I last bought a Freddo! |
