Advantages: Yummy,
Disadvantages: The foil is hard to get off.
Well there can't be many in the UK who have never tried a Cadbury's creme egg. They were first invented in 1971 although filled eggs were in existence since 1923. These eggs are also sold in different parts of the world. In the UK they weigh 40grams and have a huge 171.6 calories. The egg itself has a milk chocolate shell filled with a yellow and white fondant, which is meant to represent yolk.
I remember buying these eggs as a youngster and they have not altered. However back then you could only buy them in February, March and April. Now you can buy them all the year round but they are more prominent immediately after Christmas.
Also over the years Cadbury's have brought out different variations including bite sized creme eggs, caramel eggs, bite sized caramel eggs, chocolate eggs, orange creme eggs, mint creme eggs as well as other limited editions.
The egg itself is made by producing 2 half moulds and then filling with the fondant and closing the shell.
The most memorable advertising campaign I remember was 2004-7 when the campaign was 'how do you eat yours'. As yet I haven't seen an advertising campaign this year.

As you can see it probably isn't the healthiest chocolate treat in the world. Although I love the taste of them. They are probably just the right size because the fondant would get too sickly. The chocolate I could eat all day.
So how do you eat yours??
Well I freeze mine and basically gnaw at them whilst watching tele. However if I'm out and about it is a case of biting the top off and scooping the inside out with my tongue.
Summary: A great easter treat!!!

- 05/04/09 Freezing them. I've never heard of anyone doing that. I would ban them if I could. Don't like them at all. |
