I am hooked. I am hooked on this vanilla flavour ice cream finished with a Cadbury flake milk chocolate bar.
Strangely, I don’t go dizzy over chocolate. I mean, I like chocolate but know when I’ve had enough. Some chocolate deserves a good savour and drool whilst others would be better spat out immediately.
Cadbury’s flake bars are probably up there with my list of favourites. Smooth, creamy, milk chocolate which crumbles in your mouth with a burst of coco flavour….what could be bad about it?
I do like ice cream. I think vanilla is probably my favourite – though you could nudge me towards ecstasy with the tasty Greek yogurt ice creams now appearing at a supermarket near everybody.
I have always enjoyed the ice cream wafers and cones which you can buy to go with your ice cream desserts. But the cone which holds the smooth, delicious vanilla ice cream in this mouth watering treat is extra tasty. It has a ‘bite’ to it: it is sweet, though not overly so. It is slightly thicker than the wafers and cones you would buy from the shop or with a curly-whirly ice cream scooped inside from your local friendly ice cream man.
The finished article:
The inside of the crisp cones are coated with a thin layer of Cadbury milk chocolate then filled with a soft, vanilla ice cream and finished with a Cadbury Flake milk chocolate bar; curly ‘shavings’ of chocolate are sprinkled over the top of the ice cream for the ‘ta-da’ effect. When you get to the end of the cone, you get a satisfying little nugget of chocolate to pop into your mouth and savour.
So hooked am I that, for weeks now, I have been enjoying one every evening after my main meal. I never used to bother with puddings, but I just can’t help myself with this Cadbury treat. I buy mine at the Co-op in special boxes of 4 (or 5 for 4, depending on the special offer). There is a very slight difference in the single cones you buy and the multi-packs… not the taste, just that the multi-packed cones are maybe just a tiny bit smaller.
Each cone is wrapped in a yellow, gold & black thin cardboard wrapper and the ice cream and chocolate bar are protected by a little plastic 'dome' which can either be discarded or made into something entertaining for your kids to play with over the summer holidays.
Origins of Cadbury Flake 99 ice cream cones:
Earnest Hamwi and Arnold Fornachou first served ice cream in a biscuit cone at the World’s Fair in St Louis USA in 904. But it wasn’t until the 1930s that a Cadbury Flake and ice cream were brought together for the first time (a marriage made in heaven!) by Italian ice cream makers and Cadbury. The result was so delicious that the creation was given the name “99r®”. Legend has it that the brand name comes from the days of the monarchy in Italy when the King had an elite guard consisting of 99 men. Subsequently, “99®” came to mean something really special or first class. Today, Cadbury Flake 99 ice cream cones are as special as ever.
Ingredients:
Reconstitued buttermilk, Milk Chocolate (Milk, Sugar, Cocoa butter, Cocoa mass, Vegetable fat, Emulsifiers – E442, E476 - Flavourings), Biscuit Cone (wheat flour, sugar, vegetable oil, emulsifier – soya lecithin – caramelised sugar, salt), coconut oil, sugar, glucose syrup, dried whey, Emulsifier – E471 – Stablisers (Locust bean gum, Guar gum, Carrageenan), Natural flavourings, Natural colours (Curcumin, Annatto)
The product may also contain nut traces. Suitable for vegetarians.
Here’s the bit which might worry the dieters:
Each cone contains 240 cals and 12.6g of fat, 29.0g carbohydrate.
Cost: Single cones: £1.30. Box of 4: £2.99 (which makes it a more economical option)
Am I bovvered? I’m not bovvered!! Paradise in a cone, that’s what this is!
