Advantages: cheap, widely available

Disadvantages: easy to eat a few, Freddo's not much to look at

BACKGROUND

It is widely accepted that the inventor of the modern day icon Freddo frog was Harry Melbourne of MacRobertson's of Australia in 1930. It is believed MacRobertson's chose a frog as a mouse would scare women and children. Freddo Frogs became part of the Cadbury product range in 1967, when MacRobertson's were sold to Cadbury.

Freddo Frogs are primarily available as solid milk fingers (a caramel version is also available) for 15p - marked on the wrapper. They used to be 10p!
Apparently, there are lots of different varieties in Australia.

The wrapper is different from the photo on dooyoo. It is purple in the background, with the Cadbury logo and Freddo the Frog, with his name on a white long sleeved shirt, and wearing blue trousers. I have to say, Freddo is not much of a looker, and on the packet, his legs appear to be chopped off (is Cadbury guilt of animal cruelty?)!

HEEEEEEEERE'S........FREDDO!

Each chocolate is shaped like a cartoon frog, standing up and dressed, with a 'finger' to his mouth (why?). Also, Freddo has 4 'fingers' on the packet, and 5 on the actual chocolate bar. I think I've spent too much time looking at Freddos!

Anyway, the packet is easy to open - it's a tear-open packet, and Freddo is about 7cm long and 3cm wide. I think Freddos are the best - the chocolate is the typical Cadbury chocolate - creamy and satisfying milk chocolate. Just to give you an idea, I can eat 1 bar in 3 big bites. To be honest though, I like eating two bars. Because Freddos are quite small, they will melt in hot weather etc more quickly, but I've never had a deformed Freddo bar!

For me personally, Freddos are better value for money than other Cadbury chocolates. At 18g, 2 bars are more than enough for me, costing 30p (which doesn't vary from shop to shop) while a 49g bar of Dairy milk typically costs 45 - 60 something pence. Freddos are (at least where I live) readily available - they can be found in many newsagents, cafes etc, and if you love them, and have a Costco card, it Could be good value to buy a box.

NUTRITION INFORMATION (per bar)
105 Calories
6.0g Fat
3.7g Saturates

Contains milk, may contain traces of nuts, wheat or soya. Suitable for vegetarians.

Icidentally, the calorie amounts etc on the Cadbury website are lower than those on the Freddo pack. Hmmm, I might send them an email and update this with what they have to say!
