Advantages: it's covered in Cadbury's milk chocolate
Disadvantages: sponge was a bit dry, quite sweet
I was in my local Asda yesterday and I had obviously gotten there at the right time, Just as I was going through the bread and cake section, a member of staff was putting the whoops stickers on a load of these packs of mini rolls. I wouldn't normally buy these, as they are expensive(around £2.00), and too tempting. But I overheard someone saying they were 5p a pack for a pack of 15. I could not believe what a bargain it was so I grabbed a pack (the other customer was about to fill her trolley full of them)! I checked the date and they had 2 days until the best before date. I could not pass up an offer like this. I kept a few for my daughters packed lunches and took the rest into the office with me today, the ladies were grateful come teatime, so I've become popular.
***About the product ***
The packaging
************
It was a pack of 15 individually wrapped mini rolls. The outer packaging was a thin purple plastic wrapper over a white corrugated cardboard box with no top to it. This box was quite sturdy and definitely done it's job of protecting the product from becoming bashed. The cardboard is recyclable, but the plastic outer is not, but it was rather thin, thus minimizing on the waste. Each individual roll was wrapped in a thin plastic wrapper to keep the freshness in. The nutritional values were only on the outer larger wrapper as was the best before date. I don't particularly like this idea, as when I opened the larger wrapper it ripped so I took it off and just put the box in the cupboard, so I don't have this information.
The Product
**********
The mini roll is a thin layer of chocolate sponge covered in a thin layer of vanilla cream flavoured filling, then rolled to give a swirl effect of the brown(sponge) and white(cream). Once rolled it is covered in a thin layer of Cadbury's milk chocolate. Each roll is about 1 inch in circumference and 2 ½ to 3 inches long.
Each mini roll contains:
120 calories
12.4g sugars
6.2g fat
3.1g saturates
0.18g salt
My Opinion
*********
I think these are quite nice as a treat, but they are quite sweet, I also felt that the sponge was a little dry, maybe if there was more cream in it, I'd have enjoyed it more. I am quite fussy when it comes to cake, I prefer them to be more moist. I did enjoy the chocolate covering, it was not too thin and has the usual Cadbury high standard. This would not be my first choice of a treat. I probably would not buy these again, unless they were as cheap again, mind you my daughter quite liked having a cake in her packed lunch and was glad of the change. I'm just glad I did not pay full price for these or I'd be a bit disappointed.
6/10
Summary: Not the treat for me
