Advantages: It's a cake...

Disadvantages: Foamy filling, chocolate too thin.

Cadbury's mini rolls are one of those cakes that I remember fondly from childhood - the sort of treat that would magically appear in my school lunchbox quite frequently.

I haven't had them for a while, so decided to pick up a pack of 6 of the milk chocolate variety as part of a 2 for £2 offer last week.

The packaging has changed a bit since the good old days...still the trademark predominantly purple Cadbury's wrapping, but the mini rolls themselves are now individually wrapped in a thin plastic wrapper, rather than foil. I think perhaps the foil wrappers feature in my reminiscing - the joy of the shiny wrapper, the fiddling about trying to peel it all off, than being able to roll it into a hard ball & flick it at some kid you didn't like....ahh, those were the days....!

Anyhow, onto the mini-roll itself, which is basically a round roll of chocolate flavoured sponge, with a vanilla cream filling, covered in a coating of Cadbury's milk chocolate.

The main outer packaging features a picture of a mini-roll with a thick cream-coloured filling oozing out, although we are warned on the back of the packet that THESE CAKES DO NOT CONTAIN DAIRY CREAM. This is evident as soon as you bite into one. The 'vanilla flavour filling' is white, thin & has an almost foam-like texture. Pretty yucky really...& I certainly never remember it having this texture. The chocolate sponge is nice enough, & the chocolate coating is Cadbury's milk chocolate, but spread VERY thinly. I know it always was thin, but it seems like it used to thicker on the bottom at least...?

Overall, I was quite disappointed with my trip down memory lane. Same as most things, memories are best left alone, not to be tinkered with.

Mini-rolls also come in other guises, such as strawberry flavour. I think I'm done with my reminiscing though, & will give them a miss...

Summary: Not impressed...

Aaah, another trip down memory lane! I used to like them, but now think they are best left down memory lane.
