Advantages: velvety chocolate better than an aero

Disadvantages: none

I used to think wispa's were a thing of the past, a golden memory of childhood, then a very successful internet campaign made them a return addition to our chocolate bar shelves in 2007.

Cadbury's wispa is an aerated bar of milk chocolate with a velvety taste far superior to its near competitor the aero bar.

Originally launched in 1981 only in the North of England it was then launched nationwide in 1983. But disaster for all Wispa lovers came in 2003 when Cadbury's in their infinite wisdom discontinued the Wispa bar and rebranded it under the Cadbury's Dairy Milk line as Dairy Milk Bubbly looking more like a dairy milk bar with squares of chocolate rather than the wispa bar we all knew and loved.

Then a internet campaign over various social networking platforms and stunts campaigned to "Bring back Wispa" even interupting a performance at the Glastonbury Festival to champion their cause. Fortunately Cadbury's listened to the voice of the people and brought back Wispa (but only initially for a limited time) in October 2007 by 2008 they decided to bring it back permanently and it now graces our sweet shelves back in its rightful home.

The purply/blue wrapping with wispa written in red and edged with gold wraps the lovely chocolate. The ingredients include:

Milk, Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Mass, Dried Skimmed Milk, Vegetable Fat, Emulsifier, Flavourings.

Nutrional Information for each standard 39g bar is:

Calories: 210
Sugars: 21.1 g
Fat: 12.9g
Saturated Fat: 8.1g
Salt: 0.009g

Flavours that the Wispa was originally available in:
Wispa Gold: Wispa Chocolate with a caramel filling (launched 1995 - relaunched in 2009)
Wispa Mint: with a mint filling (launched 1997 - not relaunched yet!)
Wispa Bite: with caramel and biscuit (launched 2000 - not relaunched yet!)
Wispaccino: With coffee (launched 2000 - not relaunched yet!)

So far only the Wispa Gold and Wispa Easter Egg are the only previous products that have been relaunched in addition to the original bar.

The smooth chocolate is apparently made by aerating the molten chocolate with gas at a high pressure to cuase the tiny bubble to form in the liquid chocolate, and as the chocolate cools and solidifies the gas bubbles expand.

I am very glad that the wispa is back as it is one of my favourites.

Summary: nice to see it back
