Advantages: Great taste
Disadvantages: A bit expensive
I really seem to be writing a lot of chocolate biscuit review lately but that's because I just love chocolate biscuits! They're a mixture of two of my favourite foods, chocolate and biscuits. Cadburys Chocolate Rich Tea biscuits are one of my favourites. Cadburys are very well known for making the best quality chocolate in the U.K and it makes sense therefore that their chocolate biscuits would be good. As soon as I saw these I just had too give them a try.
I bought a 300g packet for £1.35 from Tesco which wasn't the cheapest seeing as the Tesco Value ones only cost £0.27 for the same amount. That's a big difference so if you're trying to save money or buying a lot for a big party you might want to try the Tesco Value ones but otherwise I think that these are worth paying extra for as they really are the best quality you can get!
They come in a purple packet with a blue part across the front. On the blue bit is the name Rich Tea. The "I" in Rich has been replaced with a little heart which is quite appropriate because I do love these biscuits! There's also a picture of 2 of the biscuits so that you can see the chocolate side and the plain side. There is also the Cadburys logo and then on the back of the packet are the ingredients are the nutritional values.
The ingredients, which I include for the benefit of those people who suffer from food allergies are:
Wheat Flour, Milk Chocolate (32%) (Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Mass, Dried Skimmed Milk, Milk Fat, Dried Whey, Emulsifier (Soya Lecithin)), Sugar, Vegetable Fat, Partially Inverted Sugar Syrup, Raising Agents (Sodium Bicarbonate, Ammonium Bicarbonate, E450), Salt, Flavourings, Flour Treatment Agent (E223)
This means that unfortunately they contain wheat and milk so if you are allergic to either of those things then unfortunately these are not for you. These are also not good news if you are on a diet but that's what you have to expect from a chocolate biscuit, each biscuit contains:
255 KJ of Energy
60 Calories
0.8g of Protein
8.4g of Carbohydrate
2.7g of Fat
Inside the packet the biscuits are all stacked on top of each other and you will probably find that the biscuits on either end have been broken on the way back from the shops, unless you have taken extra special care not to break them. It doesn't matter though because the crumbs still taste good. I recommend that if you want them to stay fresh you should put them into an airtight container or they will go soft within a few days.
The biscuits are round and about 5.5cms in diameter, I think but I've never actually measured one, they end up in my mouth to fast to do that. One side of the biscuit is a normal rich tea which I'm sure you know has the name Rich Tea written across the middle with various holes in a tidy pattern around it, it's a pale golden colour. On the other side of the biscuit is a nice thick layer of chocolate which is surprisingly dark coloured considering that it's milk chocolate. It is in a nice pattern which looks like little squares and gives it a nice texture.
The taste of these is brilliant, the Rich Tea is slightly sweet and has a nice crunch of it before crumbling in your mouth and turning all soft. The chocolate is really tasty, you can taste the milk in it and it melts in your mouth. It has a nice sweet taste which gives some flavour to the rich tea biscuits which are otherwise rather plain. I'm afraid I don't dunk my biscuits as I don't like tea or coffee so I can't tell you how well they survive it.
Overall I think that these biscuits are great, they have a lovely thick chocolate layer which gives them a great sweet flavour and because it's Cadbury's chocolate it melts in your mouth very nicely, 10 out of 10.
Summary: Yummm!
