Advantages: A nice twist on Dairy Milk

Disadvantages: Calories (as usual...)

Cadbury's have recently given the Dairy Milk mega brand a major overhaul. They've introduced no less than seven different variations on a bar of Dairy Milk and re-named their famous Cadbury's Caramel, giving it the new name of Dairy Milk with Caramel. During our visit to Cadbury World recently we were given various bars from this new range to take home and sample so I thought I'd do a review while munching on a bar of Dairy Milk Crispies.

Opening the wrapper a gorgeous waft of unmistakable Cadbury's milk chocolate delivers itself to your nose but the smell isn't exactly the same as a standard Dairy Milk would smell, there's also an aroma of *something* that has a mildly burned smell. Very odd. The top of the bar looks exactly the same as a Dairy Milk, a strip of six bulky segments of chocolate each stamped with the Cadbury name but the bottom is a different story. The chocolate is dotted with loads of little white bits which are obviously the crispies to make this bar a Dairy Milk Crispies.

Popping the first segment in my mouth, all I can taste to start with is Dairy Milk. I like to slowly suck my chocolate and as I was sucking I knew the crispy bits were on the bottom so I ran my tongue along the chocolate to make it melt that little bit faster so I could find out what the crispies bit was going to taste like. And they taste delicious. The milk chocolate which Cadbury's are (rightly) so proud of makes the bar smooth and rich and the crispie pieces add a bit of fun to the proceedings.

I got fed up with sucking (as you do) so decided to bite my piece of chocolate in half. Your teeth don't sink into the chocolate in the same way as plain Dairy Milk, which I think is thanks to the hard crispie pieces. Eating the chocolate this way makes the bar taste very similar to the old Nestle Dairy Crunch - you know, a blue wrapper containing a slab of Nestle chocolate filled with rice crispie pieces. The only difference is the chocolate in the Cadbury's version is far superior, creamy and smooth, otherwise it could be the same bar the taste is so similar. The crispie pieces are what gave the bar the burned smell as they taste like they've been slightly toasted when you bite them and are deliciously crunchy. And they stay crunchy even when you suck a piece of the chocolate, no soggy crispies in this bar! The chocolate bar doesn't seem as sweet as a standard Dairy Milk. Don't get me wrong, it isn't by any stretch of the imagination bitter but whereas Dairy Milk is very sweet indeed, the addition of the toasted crispies have taken some of the sweetness and replaced it with a slightly savoury flavour. And the two flavours work really nicely together, you've got the smoothness of the milk chocolate combined with the crunchiness of the crispies and this gives a lovely texture to the chocolate bar.

The bars are priced at around 40p for the small one and £1.19 for the larger slab variety, which is (in my opinion) a bargain! The bad news is a Dairy Milk Crispies bar will set you back 240 cals and a massive 13g fat, so not the kind of snack you want to be eating too often! I'll definitely look out for these again as they're a lovely twist on what is a gorgeous choccie bar anyway. Roll on tomorrow when I can sample the Dairy Milk with Crunchie pieces!

Thanks for reading.

Summary: Gorgeous, just gorgeous.
