Advantages: Good taste

Disadvantages: High is sugar & saturated fat

I spotted these in Morrisons at the weekend and, as they're something that my partner & I both like, slipped them into the trolley. Each bar weighs around 25/26g so is an ideal size to pop into a lunchbox or to have on a break but then you do need to bear in mind the nutritional information, more of which later.

The outer packaging of the multipack is predominantly purple with the famous Cadbury Daily Milk logo across the front. Underneath there's a wedge of pink with the word "Turkish" on it. There's a big "5 bars + 2 Free" sign in the top right hand corner. On the back there's the usual ingredients, nutritional information and all the rest of the usual bumpf you'd expect to see along with the Cadbury website address:- www.cadbury.co.uk

On opening the pack you'll find 7 of the Dairy Milk Turkish bars which are individually wrapped. These also have the logos on the front & the ingredients & nutritional information on the back. Each bar contains 6 segments of chocolate which measures around 3 1/2 cms by 2 cms.

I paid £1.64p for a multipack of these which contains 7 bars of Dairy Milk Turkish.

Taste & Opinion:

This chocolate in this bar is rich & creamy with a taste that lingers slightly after you've eaten it. I don't find it to be too oversweet but a number of friends of mine think that it's quite sickly & prefer to stick to dark chocolate instead. As with most of the chocolate products I buy I like to pop it into the fridge & then crunch into it rather than allow it to melt in the mouth. When you bite into it you can taste the Turkish delight filling which doesn't taste too oversweet either in my opinion. The difference between the harder chocolate & the softer Turkish Delight filling makes a nice contrast I think, although the Turkish Delight filling doesn't create as much of an impression on your taste buds as the caramel in the Dairy Milk Caramel bar does.

So far so good in terms of taste but then you see the bad new on the "Each Bar Contains" panel. For just one small bar of chocolate (around 25g) you get:-

25.4% of your Recommended Daily Amount of sugar
and
25.5% of your Recommended Daily Amount of saturated fat

Those are high figures for sugar & saturated fat by any stretch of the imagination, particularly when you consider the size & weight of the bar & the fact that it's probably taken you less than 3 minutes to actually eat the thing. You certainly wouldn't want to eat more than one in a single sitting, especially if you were on a diet or trying to watch your weight. There are certainly other sweet / dessert options out there that ramp up the sugar or fat counters but actually provide you with more 'weight' for your trouble.

In terms of the Cadbury's Caramel bar ithe Turkish bar is worse for you on both the sugar & saturated fat fronts with the following amounts listed for the Caramel bar:-

21.2% of your Recommended Daily Amount of sugar
and
13.0% of your Recommended Daily Amount of saturated fat

The Cadbury's Dairy Milk has the following amount listed which means that the Turkish is worse for you in terms of sugar but better in terms of saturated fat.

24.7% of your Recommended Daily Amount of sugar
and
36.5% of your Recommended Daily Amount of saturated fat

And in terms of the Cadbury's Fruit 'n' Nut (figures below) the Turkish is worse for you in terms of sugar but better for saturated fat.

24% of your Recommended Daily Amount of sugar
and
28.5% of your Recommended Daily Amount of saturated fat

In terms of Dairy Milk, Fruit & Nut, Caramel and Turkish then the Turkish is worst in terms of sugar. In terms of saturated fat however, it's ranks third as it's not as bad as Dairy Milk or Fruit 'n' Nut. As with the rest of the Cadbury bars these bars is that they really are very nice. But, for 6 little segments of chocolate, this bar uses up more than a quarter of your RDA for both sugar & saturated fat so for those of you watching their weight it's better to find other treats that are lower in sugar, fat & saturated fat.
Overall then, it's got a nice taste but it's unhealthy for what you get.

Summary: Cadbury's Turkish Bar
