Advantages: Sweet taste, delicous, cheap - it's fudge!
Disadvantages: Too small - definately not enough to give me a treat
A finger of fudge is just enough to give your kids a treat.
We all remember that lovely little advert from way back don’t we? Well today I am going to put to the test whether that little ditty above is still true or not.
I brought 4 of these delectable little chocolate and fudge bars from my local newsagents today. They cost me 15p each and as the price seems to be printed on the wrapper of all the ones I have seen for sale recently, the shops can’t really charge you more, which is a good thing.
THE WRAPPER****
Ok, the bars still have the same wrapper that I remember from when I was a kid. Red background with “Fudge” written in purple bubble letters and the Cadbury logo at the start. On the back is all the nutritional info, which I will cover later. I have to say though that is pretty squashed up due to the (annoyingly) small size of the bar.
FINGER OF FUDGE****
Opening the packet and peeling down the wrapper the smell of fudge is wafting up to my nose. There is a faint smell of chocolate but the fudge is definitely the stronger smell. Fine by me, I love the stuff.
It is shaped like a tunnel. That’s the best way to describe it. Flat on the bottom with an arch of chocolate and fudge over the top. Can you picture it?
I have just taken a bite off the end and the fudge is immediately making my mouth water and my taste buds are going mad. The fudge part is just the right consistency of chewy. The chocolate layer is so thin that I can hardly taste it but there is a slight blend in the fudge which makes it different from say, Devon fudge on it’s own, so I am guessing this is the chocolate. You cannot distinguish it as chocolate on its own though. Second bite and I am still hungry for more. Each bite comes away from the bar perfectly, with no stringy bits attaching the bar to your mouth like you get with a Mars bar. Your teeth sink into with ease and it is lovely and creamy on your tongue when it’s been chewed for a bit. Sorry, reading that back it sounds gross but it is the total opposite. Heaven in my mouth! For some reason I always think there is one more bite left in the bar, inside the wrapper, and when I pull it out with my teeth there is always more than I thought. This way however my last mouthful is always a massive taste sensation and extremely delicious.
NUTRITION*****
There are 110 cals per bar which is quite a lot as the bars are only small and there is 3.7g of fat.
These bars are suitable for vegetarians but if anyone suffers from allergies then there is a warning saying it MAY contain traces of nut, egg and soya.
Best before date on mine is April 2007, not that it would EVER last that long in my chocolate box!
OVERALL OPINION****
So – the burning question. Is a finger of fudge is just enough to give your kids a treat?
Quite frankly I really don’t know what the kids would think as I have eaten two of the four bars I brought and they are not getting a look in so far. The other two have been hidden in the cupboard too high for them to reach! Ha Ha.
In my opinion, there is not enough in a bar to give me a treat and two is more satisfactory. If you were on a diet though, then one would be plenty! I ended my slimming world diet the day I started it. Life’s too short for me to worry about my weight so much.
Finger of Fudge gets five stars from me and I am sure the kids would agree – given the chance! LOL
xx
Summary: Good one Cadburys - don't discontinue it!
