Advantages: Excellent assortment, reasonably priced, great for gifts

Disadvantages: Can't think of any

The allure of Cadbury's Milk Tray starts from the exquisite and elegant looking box and ends with the delicious and wide array of differently filled chocolates.

Although not on the same par as many Swiss and other European manufacturers, as far as quality is concerned, Cadbury's have created an affordable range of products suitable for most people.

The Cadbury Company was formed in 1824 as a one man business, by a young Quaker named John Cadbury. His business originated on Bull Street in Birmingham.

By 1831, with business blosomming, John Cadbury diversified into manufacturing drinking chocolate and cocoa. This was to be the start of the Cadbury conglomerate as it is known today.

Today Cabdury is the largest manufacturer of chocolate in the U.K. and one of the largest producers in the world.

In 1915 Cadbury's launched Milk Tray. At that time the market strategy was primarily to target men between the ages of 20 to 40 as givers and women as receivers. The secondary target was 20 to 40 year old women buying gifts for a wider range of people, which included friends, relatives and companions.

Cadbury's certainly got their markting ploy right because today Milk Tray is certainly one of the first things that you could pick up or think about if you want to give someone a gift. It is something that sort of fits perfectly for every occasion. The fact that they are also available in various box sizes helps considerably.

I am sure that everyone still remembers one of Britains most famous advertizement campaign's featuring the "Man in Black". This rather James Bond style campaign ran from 1968 until the early 1990's. The most recent campaign launched in February 2001 stuck with the "Man in Black" image and finally saw the lady seeing and getting her man.

Milk Tray derives it's name from being the first assortment collection to be laid out on a tray. r>
Today the basic concept remains intact albeit a few minor and positive changes.

Cadbury's Milk Tray contains an excellent assortment of chocolates that should suit everyone's needs. Needless to say some many find certain flavours more enticing than others. However Milk Tray is primarily something that get's shared around so the chances of anything being left are rather slim indeed.

Cadbury's Milk Trays is available in usually two box sizes. You have a 227gms box and a 454 gms box. However having read one other members opinion I learnt that they also do a 56gms box. However I have not personally seen this packing and would certainly find it rather small to give away as a gift. Alternatively it would be ideal to have in a corner all by yourself.

The 227gm boxes go for £2.98 and the 454gm ones for £3.87. As you can see the 454gms boxes provide considerably more value for money and highlight just how much money actually goes into packing.

The boxes are a stiking purple in colour and as mentioned earlier, are very attractive indeed. A new box has recently been introduced in a very light purple colour. However I think it's only available in one size at present.

The chocolates are placed on indented trays that hold them perfectly and firmly. These boxes can go through a moderate battering without unduly damaging the delicate contents.

Now down to the chocolates contained herein these lovely boxes.

You are provided with an assortment of twelve different filling/flavours and these are:

Eastern Delight
Truffle-Icious
Fudge-Tastic
Praline Parfait
Caramel Heart
Caramel Caress
Caramel Charm
Orange Truffle
Strawberry Kiss
Melting Moment
Soft Whisper
Hazelnut Heaven

Each one of these flavours provides it's own unique taste and texture. Personally my favourite has always been the "Melting Moment" and the "Eastern
Delight". I just love Turkish delight. However I think that their are just one to many Caramel based flavours and it should be replaced with another different and unique one.

Overall Cadbury's Milk Tray is an excellent acquisition and one that is affordable to most people.

PS. If you are indulging yourself please remember to leave the Eastern Delight for me.
