Advantages: Nut Lovers Paradise, No Sickly Creams
Disadvantages: Not suitable For Allergy Sufferers Due To all Having Nut Traces, All Very similar In Taste And Some Even Lacking In flavour
One of the joys of Christmas is being able to stuff your face with chocolates and not feel guilty about it, after all that’s what Christmas is for isn’t it! I never really stick to any particular brand of chocolates just whatever is on offer or takes my fancy. This year it was Cadburys Roses, the reason being a 2kg tin was on offer at £7.99. I have never really been that keen on Roses as hate all the cream chocolates, but at this price who could refuse! It was then I made a pleasant discovery after opening the tin the horrible cream choccies were no longer there, replaced with lots more yummy flavours instead. Most of them seem to have nuts in which is great if like me you love them, but not so good for people who have allergies, so in this sense I think they have done themselves down removing the yukky creams as I’m sure lots of people loved them. So let’s see what you get nowadays, yes the packaging is identical, no change there, still the blue tin with the rose on it, but who cares about the packet it’s the inside were after! Caramel (yellow and purple wrapper) This is one of my least favourites it’s a HARD toffee covered on milk chocolate, these always seem to be in larger quantities than the nicer chocolates and although I will eat them eventually there are an awful lot in the tin still!, they are just too hard, too much chewing required. Brazil Nut Caramel (gold and brown) Again as above but with plain chocolate, eww and little bits of Brazil nut in the toffee, another jaw breaker and not to hot in the flavour stakes either, best left in the tin!. Fudge (long thin bar in an orange wrapper with red stars) Basically its just like the Cadburys kiddies fudge only smaller, coated in milk chocolate its easy to tackle but I find it very tasteless in the fudge stakes,
could do with something adding. Nutty Truffle Log (blue and purple wrapper) Very pleasant, more of just a soft chocolate really than truffle, with tiny pieces of nut encased in it, this one I really like. Noisette Moment (pale blue) A new chocolate for Roses, this is milk chocolate with a soft noisette filling, however again it really tastes just like soft chocolate, there is no distinction between the outer chocolate and inside filling but it tastes lovely non the less. Caramel Truffle (green and purple) Another newcomer, this one is lovely, a combination of milk chocolate on the outside, truffle and soft gooey caramel inside, for once you can taste the different fillings , and it has become one of my favourites. Chocolate Bite (red and purple)) Another newcomer, and again a welcome addition, sort of a mini crunchie, milk chocolate with a chocolate and honeycomb filling, no large piece more blended but works well and makes a pleasant texture change and tastes yummmmm. Hazel In Caramel (purple) The old time favourite, a whole hazelnut in a soft caramel, these always seem bigger than other chocolates but there never seems to be as many in a box or tin or maybe I just eat them faster, very similar to the quality street Hazel in caramel, taste wise it’s the best! Caramel Keg (gold and red) A mini barrel full of really soft melt in the mouth caramel, again delicious but nothing to go wild about, easy and fast to eat but not a firm favourite. Truffle Chunk (gold and purple) I’m beginning to think Cadburys have a thing about truffle as hear is yet another, again a lovely texture, soft truffle encased in the chocolate shell, but very bland, Cadburys truffle has an appealing taste and is very enjoyable, but it lacks something to make
it stand out from the actual chocolate, the flavour just doesn’t come out, however still one of the nicer choccies. Hazel whirl (purple and orange) This is another of the early ones to vanish from the tin, it’s a whole hazelnut in solid swirly milk chocolate, and this is a definite favourite for me. Cadburys Mini Bar ( purple) A mini bar of just pure Cadburys milk chocolate…what more can you say Well that’s it, I hope you realise I had to eat one of every chocolate for this research of course. The plus for me is I can eat most of them, even the toffees when all the others have gone, I am glad the creams went walkies but I also think Cadburys should have put something on the tin to tell people that they were different as I can imagine a lot of people being very disappointed when they opened it. Really if you don’t like nuts or truffle you have had it as most taste pretty similar after you have eaten a few, or a lot or a 2kg tin to yourself..hehehe Plus all chocolates nutty or not come with the warning that they may contain nut traces so even the non nut ones are not safe for allergy sufferers. Calorie wise 100g of Roses contain 510 kcal and 27.9g of fat, which of course is rather high…time for that diet! Prices vary from shop to shop as I said I got mine for £7.99 (2kg), this was from Yorkshire Coast Trading or Boyes Stores. However they are normally around: £2.49 for 300g £3.99 for 500g £5.99 for 680g £7.99 for 875g Jars £9.99 for 2kg tin Cadburys started out as a a one man business opened in 1824 by a young Quaker, John Cadbury, in Bull Street Birmingham and was to be the foundation of Cadbury Limited, now one of the world's largest producers of chocolate. Cadburys Roses first appeared in 1938 , they are still the top se
lling chocolate and sales exceed 85 million per year ( that’s an awful lot of Roses!) Visit www.cadbury.co.uk for the full range of chocolates plus cards, information on products and the full history of Cadbury. © Ana 2001
