Advantages: tasty, filling and warming
Disadvantages: Slightly disappointed at the size of them
I'm not a huge fan of cereals, but I do need a bit of a pick-me-up in the mornings to be able to function properly at work! I am a big fan of croissants and love Tescos freshly baked croissants from their in-store bakery. However, with the school run and work I don't get time to visit the store each day, so I have started buying the ones off the shelves on a weekly basis and I tend to stick to their Cafe Continental Croissants, as I believe these are the best value for money.
A pack of six Cafe Continental Croissants will set you back just 99p, which for me is really cheap. As they are so cheap I half expected the quality to be compromised somewhat, but they are actually quite tasty.
In comparison to the crossiants baked fresh from their bakry, these are certainly not as big. In fact, they are probably half the size. Each croissant is around 6" long but only an couple of inches wide. They are not too thick either, which I found disappointing.
The croissants take just 2-3 minutes to warm up in the oven, at a temperature of around 200C, 400F or gas mark 6, depending on what type of oven you own. The bread does smell quite fresh and appealing when cooking.
Once cooked you are left with a golden brown croissant, with a slightly crunchy exterior and a nice soft white centre - just the way they should be.
Simply slice through the middle to add butter or jam as you wish and serve. The slicing process can get rather messy, as with the exterior being flaky pastry, it does have a tendancy to go everywhere, so be warned!
These croissants to have a really nice taste to them, though they obviously don't taste quite as good as the freshly baked ones. The flaky pastry compliments the soft white breaded centre really well, giving a nice texture to the croissants. They don't taste at all dry, which I half expected them too. They are quite moist, which I found surprising.
These croissants are packaged within a clear plastic tray, covered completely with a clear cellophane wrapper to keep the freshness in. Once the pack has been opened you do need to consume these within a couple of days, or else they start to go stale.

Obviously the above doesn't make good reading. The salt content isn't too bad, but they do contain quite high levels of fat and sugar. Not the healthiest of snacks, but very tasty all the same and warming too.
These croissants to contain wheat, gluten, milk and egg for those with allergies, however they don't contain nuts.
Ingredients:- wheat flour, unsalted butter, water. sugar, pasteurised egg, yeast, reconstituted dried skimmed milk, salt, absorbic acid.
Overall I love a good croissant. If you have the time and money then I suggest you visit a bakery either independant or an in-store bakery found in most large supermarkets. These tend to be much fresher and bigger too.
However if like me you don't have the time for this, then these Cafe Contintental croissants aren't bad either. I was a bit disappointed in the size of them, but taste wise they are actually pretty nice. They only take a couple of minutes to warm through and make a really filling and warming snack. Recommended.
Summary: Not bad for off the shelf croissants
