The product I am reviewing is Batchelors Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup . Before anybody tells me I've put it in the wrong place, I haven't - Campbells was purchased by Premier Foods who renamed the product to tie in with their Batchelors range . You might be wondering what exactly a condensed soup is - imagine opening the can, and being greeted with a thick pile of gloop . You then add water to this thick pile of gloop, heat up, and as if by magic it then thins out into a perfectly edible soup . Campbells condensed soup were always found in my store cupboard as I used them for cooking more than as soup, but I suddenly realised last year they had disappeared from the supermarket shelves. They have been re-named Batchelors Condensed Soup from March last year although the recipe remains unchanged. The re-branding followed the takeover of Campbell's UK by food giant Premier Foods last year. The label isn't so easily recognised but is similar, the Mushroom soup has a picture of a bowl of mushroom soup and the brand name in red and white, but there is a blue stripe at the top. Remember when you were little and you were feeling poorly, your Mum always knew what to give you to eat to make you feel better. My number one poorly food, without question, was Campbell's Mushroom Soup. Even now, a melancholic day, or a headache that will not budge will always have me reaching for a tin. I know, beyond all doubt that it will make me feel better. It always does. It is important to recognise that I refer specifically to Campbell's, not just any mushroom soup.
