Advantages: A delicious alternative to chocolate!

Disadvantages: These will still make me fat!

Here I am again faced with another review on ice cream... god I love this job! As with most of the other reviews they all seem to start with PMT, and end up a few extra pounds around my waist, the in between part is of course here!

The product I will now review is "Carte D'or ice cream - Amaretto".

Ok, there is one big difference with this ice cream review from the rest, this ice cream doesn't contain chocolate in any way shape or form, gasp... shock horror!

As always I was feeling a little down so decided to get myself something cold and sweet, as always I refuse to indulge on my own so I drag my husband down with me, he doesn't really mind!

So browsing through the freezer full of ice cream tubs, nothing was jumping out at me. I had managed to find a delicious tub of raspberry pavlova ice cream for the other half, but didn't fancy that myself, as I was just about to give up and take a wander down the cake isle I spotted this delight.

Well in truth the price grabbed my attention first. For the first time in ages, the Asda ice cream was full price and the branded ice creams were on offer.

For a 900ml tub of any flavour in the Carte D'or range, it would set me back £2.00, ok, sold!

This particular tub was emblazoned with a "new" label at the side of the picture, so I thought I would give it ago.

The packaging is simple, yet very classy looking. The tub is an oval shape, with the contents visible through the clear plastic. The lid is again clear but edged with a gold band.
There is no tab to break or for safety, instead there is a plastic cellophane lid, sealed underneath the lid.

Once the lid is removed you will be faced with a tub of white and caramel coloured peaks covered in what I thought to be caramel sauce and tiny round biscuits.

I am not one of those terribly anal people who insist on the ice cream being removed from the tub prior to eating, I find much more enjoyment from eating it from the tub, the best part of this is when the edges start to melt, my ice cream ends up as a pile in the centre of the tub!

This is the best bit...... the tasting!

The first thing I notice is the deceptiveness of the biscuits, I vaguely remember eating Amaretto biscuits years ago and I could have sworn they were hard, these ones are soft and sweet and add a depth of texture and flavour to the proceedings, though they were delicious I didn't get much of an almond hit, maybe I was mistaken in thinking they contained almond.

The next spoonful, I decided, should contain the two different coloured ice cream with a good slurp of the sauce I dig in with my spoon and realise how soft the cream actually is, when I pull the spoon out and place to my lips I get a distinct scent... nuts?
I place the spoon into my mouth and the ice cream starts to melt, that's when it hits me... the caramel coloured ice cream is actually hazelnut and the sauce is almond, this is possibly better than chocolate!

The taste is so Moorish, with the biscuits adding texture and the vanilla ice cream seeming to cut through the nuttiness, this is my new favourite.

Now I can usually eat a tub in a sitting, yes I do have a weight problem! (Lol), but this was more a cse of quality not quantity (god I sound like my Nan!).
Every mouthful is different, yet the recurring theme of smooth and creaminess remains.

The nutritional information (that I add to my review under duress), is as follows -

Per 100g (which equates to two scoops, so 9 servings per tub),
122 kcal
1.9g protein
17g carbohydrate
5.1g fat

This is obviously not going to be on the healthy side, but as part of a varied and healthy diet, as occasional treats are welcomed!

As you are probably aware there are many different flavours available in this range, from ice creams through to sorbets, all as equally delicious.

As you may have gathered this was delicious and of course comes highly recommended, happy PMT!

Thanks for reading x

Summary: An incredible ice cream, highly recommended.
