Advantages: always soft and easy to scoop when taken out of the freezer
Disadvantages: has alcohol in it (not really a disadvantage for me!)
I love Tiramisu, so within seconds of spying this in the supermarket freezer, it was in my trolley. As soon as I got home I grabbed a spoon and went to dive in. I ripped off the lid (I'm rather impatient) wrestled with the little flap on the foil inside which I had to pull off before getting to the ice cream and then there it was. It looked divine, all swirled in fancy peaks and decorated with cocoa powder. I stuck my spoon in, it was lovely and soft, there was no need to hack at it or bend my spoon to get some. I put it into my mouth, ummmm, it was sensational. I could taste the creamy vanilla ice cream (Carte d'Or make fantastic Vanilla ice-cream but I wrote another op on that so I won't go into detail), but through it I could taste that distinct tiramisu coffee flavour. This ice cream aslo has a rich dark chocolate swirl though it which adds a nice stickyness for that feeling of sheer indulgence. I stuck my spoon in for another mouthful, but wait what's that it's kind of rubbery. If you will excuse me for one minute whilst I spit it out, ah it appears to be a small round biscuity looking thing. I poke around in the icecream and sure enough there are more. I know Tiramisu is supposed to have soft sponge in it but these are small (about the size of a penny) biscuity things, ok they're soft but they're also chewy and just don't go with the texture of the rest of the icecream. Of course I managed to finish off the tub but I don't think I'd buy it again. Also thinking back, I was very imressed at how the icecream was presented in the tub when I first removed the lid, but actually you can't keep it looking that nice when you try to get it out. Infact my best advice for trying to present it would be to use an ice cream scoop, the long tub is well designed for easy use of an ice cream scoop. One plus point this icecream did have was that after being in my home freezer it was still alwa
ys very easy to scoop. Not like some icecreams that you have to do battle with and end up with bent spoons (I tole you I was impatient) or wait 5 minutes for it to soften. Oh and finally as this is tiramisu it does have a small percentage of alcohol in it, nothing that would make you drunk but I think I may have a confession to make to a friend of mine who for religious reasons doesn't drink alcohol. Or should I go with what she doesn't know won't hurt her? I mean it wasn't intentional. If it had peanuts in it it would have had a warning, had it had meat in it, it would have specified not suitable for vegetarians. But nothing leaped out and said this has alcohol in it.
