I'm a bit of a cheese addict . I love pretty much all cheeses - rie, Camembert, Edam, all the funny ones with herbs in. But for a good old fashioned cheese sandwich, or a hot and bubbling cheese on toast, you can't beat a good old wedge of mature cheddar.

Cathedral City Cheddar have been advertising on TV a lot, adverts with various people staring lustfully at cheese on toast, the advert always ending with the words 'You see it, You want it '. Those ads make me hungry, and so cheese on toast it is!

Cathedral City is a pretty mature cheese . Cheese is rated between 1 and 5 on strength, with one as the mildest and 5 as the maturest . It comes in at a 4, very respectable indeed .

Opening the packet, (which conveniently has a kind of plastic zip on the top to stop it going all hard and crusty in the fridge!) you get a nice whiff of the cheddar right away - nothing overpowering, no smelly socks smell, just a nice cheesy odour.

Biting into a chunk, the flavour explodes in your mouth, sharp and rich cheese flavours. Strong, but not so strong that you end up wincing - a very good flavour balance . After a little while, a creamy element comes into the flavour, and it begins to mellow, but slowly. A lovely lovely flavour indeed .

The texture of the cheese is wonderfully firm, without being hard - it's easy to slice without it breaking, and easy to grate - it doesn't stick to the grater the way some other cheeses do . And melting - scattered onto hot pasta or over a baked potato, it melts like a dream, spreading easily and becoming if anything more flavourful when hot . As you can imagine, it makes truly delicious cheese on toast, especially with just a dash of worcestershire sauce!

Currently asda are selling this at £2 for 400g, which is excellent value for such a wonderful tasting cheese . With it being a full fat cheese, its perhaps not wise to go eating whopping great amount of it (I still do though!) as it contains 416 calories per 100g, 34.9 grams of that 100 is fat .

In fact, I would probably say my cheese addiction is a large factor in me being the size I am now, but with cheese as tasty as this, I'm not too worried! Highly recommended!

It's a lovely tasting cheese though I don't eat much now, tend to stick to Parmesan & Mozzarella on my diet.
