Advantages: Great taste and packaging, and quite cheap

Disadvantages: None

I am quite picky about my cheese in general, but Cathedral City's Mature Cheddar is one of the best I've had recently. The packet is rather noticeable, with its distinctive red packaging, although perhaps has a lot of competition on the cheese shelf, because so many cheeses do tend to have bright coloured designs. Nevertheless, it's designed ease of use at the core of its concern, for the packet can be resealed to ensure that your cheese lasts longer, and maintains a little of its inherent moisture and softness.

It's quite a delight to take your first bite of this cheese - it has a very smooth texture that almost reminds me of plastic in the same way that a lot of the processed cheese you get with microwaveable burgers does, except that it is of course far higher quality, and further inspection with your tongue will reveal the cheese's delightful creaminess. Unlike a lot of cheeses, it's also quite versatile - it won't melt awkwardly like a lot of cheeses if you're putting them in a pasta bake or something, and prior to that, won't awkwardly crumble if you're trying to grate the damn stuff (as is more than can be said for a lot of cheaper cheeses!).

Sadly, though, like all cheese, it's very unhealthy for you, with 500g of the stuff boasting near enough your entire daily allowance of calories, and over twice your daily fat allowance! Thus, it is tasty and even a little addictive, but it's also rather disheartening how so little of it can amount to so many bad numbers! A 200g pack will set you back between £1.75 and £2 depending on where you shop, which is fairly reasonable for premium cheese brand, not to mention that it's got thoughtfully designed packaging with the notion of preservation in mind.

Summary: A wonderful cheese
