      Pleasant enough pate

My mate being Vegetarian and me staying with her at the moment has thrown me into a whole new world food wise! Going on holiday with her for a month and now staying in her house we cook for eachother all the time and quite frankly it's mostly easier to cook one meal for two people and in all honesty I don't miss meat at all and don't even think about it anymore! Don't get me wrong though I'm not a Vegetarian when I go out if I don't want to be and I don't avoid meat like the plague lol! The other day we were in Sainsbury's and I get sick of cheese on everything. Cheese sandwiches, cheese on toast and I was looking for something for us to share that we could use as a change on things like I just mentioned. I spotted this mushroom pate and remembered I have had some before way back although not this particular brand and at £1.38 for a tub/pot of it we decided to try it out! The Packaging: Well like I have just said it comes in a tub/pot and that is clear plastic with a large pull on/off lid to the top of it. Over that a sleeve pulls on and off containing all the information you may need! On the front of said sleeve I am told that it is Cauldron Organic Mushroom Pate and to keep it refrigerated and the best before date is clearly stated as is the size of it which in this case is 115g. Of course I am also shown the Vegetarian symbol and told thats it meets soil association organic standards. On the back of the sleeve other information provided includes a full nutritional chart, ingredients and allergy advice is stated and contact details for Cauldron foods are listed. Nice enough easy to understand information given and I do appreciate the way I'm not given too much rubbish to dispose of either! The Pate: Open it up and you are met with a sort of off white paste. .It smells of mushrooms and you can see small cubes of mushrooms throughout it too. The consistency of this though I found a bit slimy and a bit too moist. Sure I want to spread it but it was gloopy and a little hard to deal with as it kept falling off my knife! Taste wise though we both rather enjoyed it. It really did taste of fresh mushrooms and the pieces within it were well cooked and not one bit soggy to the taste. You taste a little hint of butter in there along with the seasoning and soft cheese and garlic and on the whole pate was well blended and looked pleasant enough as well as smelling it and tasting it. The only thing I think needs looking at with this pate is the consistency of it and personally I'd like it to be a little thicker thanks Caudron people! Nutritional Information Per 1/4 Pot: Energy: 185 Protein: 0.8g Carbohydrate: 1.8g of which sugars: 0.3g Fat: 3.8g of which saturates: 1.2g Fibre: 0.4g Sodium: 0.1g Salt equivalent: 0.3g Available in all good supermarkets etc and this is also available in vegetable flavour too!
