Advantages: Great taste, Good price, 100% Organic
Disadvantages: Not diet fodder
I am presently on a diet and despairing as to what I can and cannot eat. I am following the diet to the letter, and have dutifully cut out the sugars and fats that are essential to losing weight. But the worst part is when you are between those mini portions of food that are expected to keep you alive. The words snack / crisps / chocolate / chips and god knows what else float into mind??..when the tummy grumbles! Therefore I have had a look around the supermarkets for a good substitute for all those sinful joys. I have tried the Kellogg special K bar, and found it far to gooey and sweet to be able to stomach. So at this stage of the moan, my other half mentioned a particular snack type bar that he used to buy when in the mood. These were Jordans cereal bars. We went to Asda supermarket yesterday and had a good look, only to find that the only ones Jordans seem to do now are Organic cereal bars. We found Roast Hazelnut; it was the only one on sale. (I might be wrong.) So I bought a box and home they came. *** What do you get? . You get six 33.3gram bars in each box. (200gs) ***How much? This sets you back £1.26. ***How to spot them on the shelf? The box is a nice foresty green colour with the Organic promise in massive letters across the front, (you can?t miss it) and shows pictures of hazelnuts and the bars themselves. They vaguely resemble flapjack bars I think, but are larger. ***Are they edible? This morning I have had the munchies and got the box out, (dutifully) I have tried to eat only one for analytic purposes?. (I have weakened.) ***How edible? They are delicious!!! ***By whose standards? An almost savoury treat, but with just enough sweetness to assure you that you are indeed enjoying it. Jordans organic cereal bars are 100% organic, and the box tells you this in three languages.
English, French and Dutch (I think) they are approved by the Organic Standard Soil Association UK5. I guess that sounds pretty good so far. ***What am I eating? These are the main ingredients: Rolled oats, Raw cane sugar, Vegetable oil, Roast hazelnuts, (8%), Malt extract, Rice flour, Sunflower seeds, Salt. Although they state that they cannot guarantee that the product is 100% free of sesame seeds (for all of those with allergies) ***What nutritional value do they have? This is the nutritional information: Energy: 634kj / 151kcal per bar 1907kj / 455kcal per 100g serving Protein: 2.7g per bar 8.0g per 100g serving. Carbohydrates: 18.9g per bar. 56.7 per 100g serving. (Of which are sugars): 9.2g per bar. 27.6g per 100g serving. FAT of which: 7.2g per bar 21.8 per 100g serving. Saturates: 2.0g per bar. 6.1g per 100g serving. Mono ? unsaturates: 3.8g per bar. 11.4g per 100g serving. Polyunsaturates:1.4g per bar. 4.3g per 100g serving. Fibre: (by AOAC):2.6g per bar.7.8g per 100g serving. Sodium: 0.07g per bar. 0.2g per 100g serving. ***Who can eat them? Providing you do not have nut allergies; almost anyone as they are vegetarian suitable. The actual commercial spiel on the box follows: Full of energy to pick you up, it?s a delicious crunchy snack that melts in your mouth. Jordans Organic Cereal Bars only contain ingredients grown without the use of artificial fertilisers or pesticides, better for you and better for the environment. **Carbohydrates for energy. **Protein for growth **Fibre for your well being. **100% Organic. Well I thought that sounded good enough,(maybe the ,elting bit is a bit far fetched, can you get crunchy and melting in to one product?) although now having had time to read and understand the nutritional values
, I t hink I shall have to find a lower calorie snack, as these are too good to have only one a day! For more information you can visit: www.jordanscereals.co.uk Or W.Jordan (Cereals) LTD, Holme Mills, Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, SG18 9JY, England.
