Advantages: Handy snacks, Good price
Disadvantages: Smell awful, Messy, Not very filling
When I am out shopping, I am always on the lookout for something a bit different and hopefully, healthy. Now I know these are not exactly new but, I had never tried them before so popped a box in my trolly. What am I talking about? Read on! History ******* Once there was a man whom went by the name of Mr Will Keith Kellogg. This nice man used to work at Battle Creek Sanatorium, USA and here he would put people through daily exercise regimens while putting them on a strick diet. Anyway, Mr K always thought that breakfast was the most important meal of the day and sometime in 1894 while working away in there laboratory, founded the corn flake after a little mistake. These became quite popular so in 1902 he decided to start his own company and opened the doors in 1906 selling Kelloggs corn flakes. History lesson over. All this information and more can be found at the Kellogg's website. www.kelloggs.co.uk Kellogg's Today *************** Well from that little mistake, Kellogg's now produce 40 different cereals and have plants in 19 countries, not bad for a little mistake. Well which one are we talking about today? Kellogg's Frosties cereal and milk bars thats what. Prices ****** Both Asda and Tesco sell these for £1.24 per box and Sainsbury £1.25 so not much difference in price. I did find single bars in Tesco for £0.23 but opted to buy the box of 6. Outer Packaging *************** Here we go again outer and inner. Sorry but if you buy these things by the box, I guess you will need this information too. O. K. The box stands just over 6 inches tall and contains 6 bars (more on that later). The front is dark blue with a picture of Mr Tony tiger holding a frosties bar. In red you have the words Kellogg's and cereal and milk bars and in large bold white letters the word Frosties. A splash of milk adds
to the overall bold eye catching package. On the back is a rather strange picture of a cow along with some information of what you are eating and on the sides you will find your nutrition information, ingredients, website address and bar code. An easy to open box, bright and bold. For any comments you can telephone them on (UK) 0800 626 066 (ROI) 1800 626 066 or if you have a complaint you can write to their consumer services, (UK) P O Box 356 Warrington WA4 6XY (ROI) P O Box 1156 Crumin, Dublin 12. Inner Packaging *************** The bars are foil wrapped, extra freshness I guess. Mr Tony tiger appears again but this time pouring a glass of milk over the bold black letters of Frosties. The dark blue backround is the same but the edges are red. On the back you will find your ingredients and bar code again and their other address: Kellogg Marketing and Sales Company (UK) Limited. Manchester M16 OPU. Boring bit over? Not quite Just one last thing before I get down to the real reason we are here. These bars are 120 kcal each, not bad and contain 4.5g of fat. They also have lots of vitamins and are quite high in iron. They are suitable for vegetarians and for those on a gluten free diet but as they have 10g of sugar per bar, may not be good for you diabetics. Can I open now? Please. The Bar ******* Foil easily ripped open and a few flakes lost over the carpet, I lay the bar down to inspect. Just under 5 inches long and about an inch wide, It looks like a pile of compressed corn flakes. Remember the old chocolate flake cakes you used to make at school? Well these look the same but lighter and oblong. The flakes are a mixed colour of darkish yellow, a funny orange. I can just detect some white (guess this is the milk). Smell ***** Under the nose it goes and wow, vanilla hits me these are so sweet. creamy, sickly sweet. Very over powering an
d how do I put this, Yuk. Now I love Frosties but they do not smell like this in the bowl. I must say that at this point in time I am not over impressed but its the taste that counts, right? Taste ***** Starting to regret ever starting this op, in it goes. Very crunchy. Even though it contains 15% skimmed milk powder it is very dry and crispy, not a hint of a soggy flake. The taste is nowhere near as sweet as the smell and really are quite nice. The sweetness does come through the corn flavour but this is not too heavy. One thing I did notice is that these things make you so dry in the mouth and in need of a drink. Also did not find them very filling but then I am a pig. Well what do I think? ********************* I would buy these again as they have a good cupboard life (about 9 months) and for a busy mum, are very handy. They are pleasant but not out of this world. Good points Very handy for pack lunches and on the run snacks. Taste quite nice. Good price. Suitable for vegetarians and those on a gluten free diet. Bad points Messy. They stink. I am sorry this has been posted under cereal bars in general but there is not a section for this bar. Wrote for another site and posted here. Thanks for reading. Michelle ---X---
