Advantages: good crisp
Disadvantages: none
While on holiday in France we shopped at a Champion supermarket (whenever I see one of these supermarkets the words champion the wonder horse and the signature tune to this TV program I watched as a child goes through my head) Champion is a big chain of supermarkets in France like tesco or Sainsbury's it is one of the Carrefour group's supermarkets. Website address http://www.carrefour.gr/en/champion.htm
We had decided we wanted some crisps for our picnic looked at the varieties they had some well known brands to us in England but the own brand were cheaper. I can not remember the price and no longer have my receipt.
The crisps mostly seem to be labeled as chips in France a tad confusing but the picture on the bag convinced us they were crisps. and we decided to try them. We chose a large packet to share
The chips I chose were champion chips ondulees. These chips were in a 150g blue plastic foil bag I could see no indication of flavor on this pack but could see that there were other champion bags with the flavor written on them, so I assumed the blue packet contained plain crisps. The other flavors available in these champion ondulees chips are barbeque salt and vinegar or bolognaise.
So what does ondulees mean? I think it means ridged as something that is undulated means up and down.
To make it easy these chips have a picture of ridges /crinkle cut crisps on the pack.
I put some cheese and fruit into my rucksack and put the chips on top so they would not get crushed. When we stopped to eat our lunch I opened the packet. The crisps were ridged /crinkle cut they were a light golden brown. Looked like many other crinkle cut crisps I have eaten in the past. Now to bite yes they were crisp not soggy good and crisp. The flavor yes I was right a plain lightly salted crisp. These tasted good a potato flavor sometimes own brand crisps are not so good but I enjoyed these they were not greasy. I would recommend these crisps to anyone.
We did not eat all the crisps at once so I sealed the bag just by folding the top over several times, the chips stayed crisp and fresh till that evening when we ate the rest of them.
Translating the French nutrition I note there are 5344kcal per100g, 33g fat in 100g. There are lots of calories and fat in all crisps.
Generally I thought these were a good chip/crisp a fair price compared with other crisps on the shelf, so if you are going to France do not be afraid to buy the champion crisps as they are fine passed the Mary taste crispness testing .
Summary: crinkle cut champion own brand crisps
