Advantages: Coconut, tastes good, a 'free from' product

Disadvantages: Lots of chewing!

"Grown-up" sweets are a bit of a treat for me. You see, being wheat intolerant and lactose intolerant means chocolate bars and the like are out of bounds, so I tend to be restricted to jelly type sweets such as Haribo. So when I came across this Cofresh Soft Handmade Coconut Bar in Tesco I grabbed it and put it with the rest of the shopping.

The wrapper suggests it is also suitable for vegetarians (some people don't realise that certain sweets aren't suitable for vegetarians!), Halal (Kosher) and gluten free. Ingredients include Desiccated coconut (43%), sugar, glucose, albumin (egg white) and vanilla flavouring.

Opening the wrapper, I could smell the sweet coconut, it reminded me of coconut ice. In fact, this bar does look very similar to coconut ice, but it's shape is flatter. Taking a bite into the bar, I could tell that it also tasted very similar to coconut ice, but not as creamy. It tasted sweet, but there's a lot of chewing involved to get the coconut out of your mouth (as per many other coconut confections). And yes, a little while later I was still finding bits of coconut in my teeth! While I found this coconut bar drier than coconut ice, I do still find it tasty.

I paid around 24p for this 50g bar (which is a bargain in today's confectionary prices!) and enjoyed giving myself a treat (instead of having to watch everyone else having one!). I would certainly buy this coconut bar again.

One thing to note though, I didn't find this Cofresh Soft Handmade Coconut bar with the other sweets in Tesco. Instead, I found it in a small section of the supermarket that seemed to stock tropical and foreign produce (which I guess is because Cofresh make authentic Indian snacks!).

Did I mention I love coconut?!

Summary: Coconutty!
