 ... £1 cheaper than Special K I thought I'd give them a go as they couldn't be all that different and they looked the same on the picture on the box. On the box it claims they are 'flakes of toasted rice and wheat fortified with vitamins' ok so I bought them. I poured my first bowl fully expecting the familiar malty Special K taste. Like many people I am always looking for ways to save a bit of cash at the moment. In my food buying this has involved changing from named brands to cheaper alternatives. For cereal I have been eating Special K for many years and have in the past gone for shops own labels and been generally impressed with them. I can remember my mum switching to shops own corn flakes but my brother, who was a fussy eater, wouldn't touch them as they were not 'Kellogg's'. My mum then bought shops own and then put the inner bag into a Kellogg's box. Well it kept my brother happy and he didn't know the difference. Country Barn Special Flakes is one of Tesco's cheaper lines 'discount branded' products. The discounted range is Tescos answer to compete with the likes of Aldi and Lidl that are taking market share. You will recognise the line by the yellow and red label on the products stating 'Discount Brands at TEsco' followed by a £ being cut in half with scissors! As a fan of Special K but not of its price I am always on the lookout for a cheaper alternative. At £1.33 for 500g compared to about £2.80 for the special K these German produced Flakes offer quite a saving!
