Easier Than Cutting Bacon Up Yourself

I was given a recipe the other day that asked for lardons, I'd NEVER heard of them before so in Tesco I had to ask someone to show me where they was..... I didn't even know it was a meat product! lol

This pack cost £1.00 for a 180g pack and they are next to the bacon in the fridges in Tesco. It's just bacon that has been already chopped up for you and that's a good idea for when you just need bits of bacon for cooking with.

There's quite a bit of fat on some of the pieces and they're a bit small to be able to trim it off properly so if you want lardons that haven't got fat on them them you should get some proper rashers of bacon and cut it up yourself.

I fried these in a bit of oil before I put them in with the rest of the ingredients and they smelled delish, just like any other bacon. The fat crisps up good as well. I only needed 150g so I munched the other bit off and they taste proper nice. They're unsmoked and have got a nice meaty flavour.

Because of them being so small you don't HAVE to fry them first because they should cook ok in whatever you're adding them to but I fried them because I thought it would make the fat go nicer and it did.

I reckon these would be yummy fried up and chucked on top of a salad because they would add a lovely texture and flavour to it. You can freeze them but there isn't much point in that with them being so cheap anyway and they've got a nice fresh bacon taste so freezing them isn't worth it.

Recommended.... when a recipe tells you to buy lardons it's worth getting a pack of these because they're cheaper than buying rashers of bacon and save you having to chop them up yourself.
