Advantages: Inexpensive and ok tasting.

Disadvantages: Not as good as they once were!

As a very young girl (many moons ago), I used to love going to visit my Gran and eating her entire packet of custard creams, this was the highlight of my week and my mum used to refuse to buy custard creams because they did not last five minutes in our house.

I had not had the pleasure of a custard cream for nearly fifteen years until a recent trip to our local Tesco`s saw me purchasing a packet of Crawford's custard creams.

Things are often very different as an adult as they were as a child and these were certainly different from how I remember them in my childhood but I had eaten them before as an adult and still enjoyed them so why could I not now?

My explanation is that they have probably removed certain ingredients that are now seen to be harmful or simply not good for us, but those ingredients could not have been that bad because I am still kicking about at a grand old age and I lived on these things.

A custard cream if you are unaware is a sandwich biscuit consisting of two rectangular biscuit pieces and a layer of custard flavoured cream, which these days seems to be more of a sickly vanilla flavour than the traditional custard.

These are a cheap biscuit and at only 39p for a packet of 16, certainly one of the cheapest about, I have to admit I still enjoyed a few of these but it was mainly my grandkids that ate them and this backs up my opinion that these might be more suited to the taste buds of kids rather than adults but I would love just once to be able to try one of my Grans ones from yesteryear and see if they have indeed changed.

Summary: The kids will love them and you can have one or two yourself.
