Since 1995 was the 50th anniversary of the end of World War 11 someone came up with the bright (?) idea of awarding a prize for a sandwich with a patriotic theme. Breadwinner Foods were awarded the prize with their Victory Roll which had as its innards Scotch beef, creamed Welsh leeks, English stilton cheese and most importantly Branston Pickle. * For this marvel of delectability would be as nought without pickle and the creators could use no other than Branston. For nearly 75 years Branston Pickle has been regarded as traditionally British although it is now sold across the world. We may ...  Read the complete review

Crosse and Blackwell Branston pickle. I usually love to go out to a pub and have a plougmans lunch, this consists of a lump of cheese, or a variety of cheeses, or a ham one, the old fashioned pub offer a half of an english apple, plus a nice salad and usually a lump of french bread. This usually costs about six pounds, so thought that i would make my own, having been over to my daughters and sitting out in her garden. But what usually brings the plougmans to life is a dollop of branston pickle, and i do enjoy this. For less than a pound comes in a glass jar, with a rescrewable lid, i must admit that i do scrimp and save the odd few pennies ...  Read the complete review

Branston Pickle. One of my favourite sandwiches is cheese and pickle. Branston pickle is among my favourites to go with a goods piece of strong cheddar. It was in 1922 that Crosse and Blackwell first produced this pickle, which has now become a classic British brand. It was first made in a small village called Branston nr Burton on Trent. Sadly Crosse and Blackwell were part of the nestle group. But no longer as premier foods has bought them out and premier foods has no links to nestle .So I will now Branson pickle more frequently feeling that I am not a traitor to my beliefs. This pickle has a nice spicy flavour following the original ...  Read the complete review

In 1922 in the small town of Branston nr Burton on Trent England a Company called Crosse and Blackwell created something really special. They took some vegetables namely........onions,carrots, cauliflower, tomato marrow, garlic and chopped them into about 1/4 inch cubes. Nothing special here I hear you say and at this point you are correct. So listen very carefully for I shall say this only once. They then took a secret blend of spices and seasoning a mixed everything together and produced a most excellent pickle. It's not just a pickle its a culinary and olfactory delight. Once the jar is opened it is nothing short of sensational from then on. The ...  Read the complete review
