Branston Pickle.
One of my favourite sandwiches is cheese and pickle. Branston pickle is among my favourites to go with a goods piece of strong cheddar.

It was in 1922 that Crosse and Blackwell first produced this pickle, which has now become a classic British brand. It was first made in a small village called Branston nr Burton on Trent. Sadly Crosse and Blackwell were part of the nestle group. But no longer as premier foods has bought them out and premier foods has no links to nestle .So I will now Branson pickle more frequently feeling that I am not a traitor to my beliefs.

This pickle has a nice spicy flavour following the original recipe. It is a rich dark brown in colour. There are a good variety of veg in this pickle including onion, cauliflower, tomato, carrot, marrow and apple, has a hint of garlic in it too.
It is a crunchy sweet spicy flavour that enhances the flavour of cheese. If you like pickle with meats or any other foods I am sure this will suit.
When you open the glass jar have a sniff you can smell the fruity pickle quite strong but pleasant makes me hungry.

I understand some people do not like the crunchy vegetable pieces in the pickle, so Branston now make a smooth pickle with out the bits in it. Branston now has a fruity pickle and a spicy pickle as well as the original that I like.

As well as using it to spice up cheeses or cold meats some people like to add it to mash potatoes, I have been known to add some to baked beans.

So why not spice up your meals serve them with Branson pickle.

In November there was a fire at the Branston pickle factory in Bury St Edmunds and I believe that over Christmas it was difficult to get hold of a jar.
I do believe the price went up as in march last year it was possible to buy a 310 jar for 64p, I saw on a supermarket web sit the same size for 99p.
Thanks for reading Mary
