Advantages: Smooth and creamy, refreshing, sweet flavour. Fat free.
Disadvantages: Have to eat a pot a day to enjoy the health benefits.
I'm not a huge fan of yogurts but I recently needed to change my diet after suffering from the effects of a junk food only existence! A friend actually bought these for me as he'd heard they were good for you somehow. The company who makes the yogurt, Danone, actually claims their product can help "improve digestive transit" and calm rumbling or bloated stomaches. It works because the yogurt contains a live culture called 'Bifidus Actiregularis', a name that the company have perhaps rather suspiciously trademarked! The yogurts supposedly work in the same way as popular probiotic drinks like 'Actimel' etc and help to keep your digestive system running like clockwork!
I have the fat free vanilla flavoured yogurts which I have in a four pack of individual 125g sized tubs. Although the yogurts are labelled 'fat free' they contain sugar and sweeteners. The vanilla contains natural flavourings and also the tiny seeds of the vanilla pod.
The yogurts are pale yellow like churned cream and have a delicious, delicate aroma of sweet, sugary vanilla. The consistency is creamy although I find that the texture can be thin or thick if not stirred first to make it even throughout. The top of the yogurt congeals around the lid and the opening and has a stiff, ultra smooth consistency. I liked the appearance of the yogurt as it is dotted with minute black vanilla pod seeds. This makes the yogurt look very sophisticated! The pod seeds are so small that I can not feel them on my tongue. The yogurt is sweet but not too sickly and the vanilla flavour is just right - not overloaded with that biscuity essence. It leaves you feeling kind of refreshed, almost as if it were a cool milky drink rather than a yogurt! It is definately moreish!
This was the first yogurt I have liked in a while and I will definately keep eating it. However when I read the small print on the packaging it tells me that to enjoy the health benefits you must eat a pot every day. I actually would find that too much to eat! Nevertheless, I would keep buying these on taste benefits alone.
One yogurt has 65 calories and 0.1g of fat which is great news. They are also suitable for vegetarians. They contain milk and are produced on a line handling nuts and wheat.
