Advantages: The subtle cocoa nib flavour combined with the tart sweetness of the cherry make this a winner!
Disadvantages: A little more pricey than the other bars in the range....,
The other day, browsing my local generic supermarket, I came across a new flavour of my favourite cereal bar! Luckily I needed some more bars for my lunchbox so I bravely decided to give them a go....Dark Morello Cherry And Roasted Cocoa Nib, I thought, What could go wrong? As it turns out, very little!!
Available for a limited time only, this latest variety was suggested by a consumer following a Walkers style competition online whereby customers were asked for their recipe suggestions. Jordans then picked the best idea and put it into production. How long this new variety will remain available for has not been made clear but I guess that depends on how well these sell.....A packet of six bars cost me £1.95 so they are slightly more expensive than the other varieties but the extra cost is worth every penny as these are really, really scrummy!
Apparently, Jordans claim, the cocoa nibs are roasted and then split so that you get all the flavour of the cocoa without any of the naughtiness but I take any claims that these are packed full of goodness with a little pinch of salt. Certainly they are probably better for you than a big bar of chocolate and much more filling for longer but the naughty thrill of indulgence that you get from eating chocolate is somewhat missing. Still this range has always been one of the better cereal bars available on the market and this latest taste sensation is no exception!
From the first bite, there is the familiar oaty chewy cereal taste of all these bars closely followed by the subtle sweetness of Morello Cherry topped off with a bitter dark chocolate flavour that comes almost as a surprising after-thought. The chocolate flavour is very subtle, almost hidden but nonetheless not unwelcome. Together with the cherry, the flavour is near infallible and works as well as any of the other four varities. In fact, this has fast replaced my former favourite which, until recently, was Cranberry And Apple and, if I am not very careful, there will be none left for my lunchbox as I keep tucking into these as a tasty and alternative afternoon snack as I enjoy my two days off. Certainly if there were two words I could use to describe these, they would be moreish and fullfilling. Forget what I said earlier about the chocolate- these have a naughty thrill all of their own and the bitter cocoa flavour really does work a treat!
Some cereal bars containing chocolate or chocolate chips tend to be overly sweet and the chocolate overpowers every other flavour until you almost forget you are eating a "healthy"cereal bar. Not here- there is all the satisfaction you get from eating one of the other varieties but with an added twist that makes these bars a real winner in my book! The only regret I have is that these are only available for a small window of opportunity but, after giving them a test-drive this week, I may have to stock up so I havbe enough for when Jordans cease production. If nothing else, praise must be heaped on the clever soul who came up with the concept in the first place whose name currently escapes me as I have just got rid of the box!
If you like your Jordans Frusli, give these Dark Cheery Cocoa a go go before they all a go go.........
Summary: A brilliant idea thought up by a Jordans consumer!
