Shortbread seems to be a popular biscuit at Christmas and New Year time. I often have some in my house and I often buy some to give as gifts to others. Some years I have even made them. This year I wanted a small gift to give as a token to out elderly next door neighbours When in tesco I saw some boxes of Deans shortcake they only cost about £1. I thought about it and it seemed the ideal little something to give not expensive or big to be an embarrassment just a small gift a gesture of goodwill.

There were a variety of Dean shortbread biscuits an everyday range, an everyday premium range an indulgence range. The biscuits I chose were an everyday premium range, now these come in several varieties. Luxury all butter rounds, Belgium choc chip rounds, Praline pecan rounds and toasted coconut rounds. I chose the all butter rounds for our neighbours and bought some for myself too.

These biscuits come in tall rectangular box with pictures of shortbread biscuits on it this box contains 160g of biscuits wrapped in an air free bag inside the box.

Helen Dean used to bake shortbread biscuits at home in Scotland raising money for her husbands pipe band. In 1975 She opened a small bakery in Huntley, as her biscuits were very popular in the 90s she moved to a larger new factory, as the demand for her small bakery was too large.

These biscuits are round with fluted edges and fork prick holes in the centre.
These biscuits are tasty not the best but a good average runner up they are not over sweet, I find walkers shortbreads a bit sweet really.
Opening the pack I get a sweet buttery scent
Deans shortcakes are a pale yellow colour and when you bite into one it has a light crumbly texture. They taste buttery and a slight bit sweet

These biscuits say they are suitable for vegetarians. They do contain wheat flour too so not suitable for those peoples with allergies. Also they contain butter so not for those on a dairy free diet. Cornflour Sugar and salt are also in the recipe. I threw the wrapper away so cannot read the details but imagine these shortbreads contain lots of calories.

So yes Deans are a fair shortbread biscuit not as good as my home made ones though , but somehow I never seem to get the time for much baking these days.

Summary: shortbread biscuits

I must check what the make is of the ones I bought last week in Tesco, they are lovely and as you say nearly as good as homemade, and time now is important.

I'll look out for these as I really enjoy a decent shortbread.
