I've been pretty much on my own this week - eldest daughter now lives in Sheffield, younger daughter away camping & hubby (self-employed) working long hours due to staff holidays - so I decided to have something a bit 'different' last night. I fancied something sweet but not too unhealthy & decided to plump for a tin of Del Monte Sliced Pineapple which comes in a 432g can & cost me £1.29. This may seem fairly pricey compared to some of the cheaper brands but have you seen the price of fresh pineapple these days?? There's always been something a bit special about canned fruit - I was born in the 50s when there was still rationing - & ... Read the complete review

While preparing the cheese and pineapple on sticks for my granddaughters birthday party I suddenly realised I'd forgotten the main component, the pineapple. Silly me, I had to drive to the closest shop which was about 5 miles away (it was a Sunday afternoon) and hope to goodness that they had some tins of pineapple as although my daughter had a fresh one sitting in the fruit bowl somehow fresh pineapple isn't the same with cheese. The shop had lots of cheap looking no-name tins of fruit, including pineapple, but the quality of the labels looked suspect so I eventually paid the disgusting £1.59 they wanted for a medium sized tin of Del Monte Pineapple Rings. ... A little favourite pleasure of mine is pineapple rings with vanilla ice cream, a bit strange really when you consider that if you gave me a fresh pineapple I would never eat it. The pineapple rings that come in Syrup however are excellent and until recently I had been using Sainsbury`s own brand but then one day when Sainsbury had none I had to fork out the extra for a tin of Del Monte and sorry Sainsbury but I will never look back. The 432g tin of Del Monte pineapple rings set me back the princely sum of £1.29 as opposed to the 98p that I usually pay for the same size tin of Sainsbury own brand but they were worth every extra penny in my opinion. ... yummy yummy yummy and healthy cant be right?? I love canned fruit but you cant beat del monte fruit in a tin. The pinapple rings are the best and come in a 432g tin which costs £1.29 which is pricey but worth the money in my opinion. The rings come in a syrup which help to preserve them and keep them sweet. The texture of them is quite firm but ripe and sweet and the flavour is really intense because they sit in their own juice and mixed with the syrup brings out the natural sweetness. These go really well with cream or ice cream as a dessert, or you can add them to a sponge and make a pineapple upside down cake by putting them in the bottom fo the dish ... Read the complete review
