I began by browning mince and then drained the fat from it and added a crumbled Oxo cube. Then, I added this jar of sauce. I was quite surprised at how thick and chunky it was, there were big chunks of tomato in it and the smell was quite delicious, you could really smell the herbs, garlic and tomatoes. It took around 25 minutes to cook...more

Premium Review Dolmio Bolognese Sauce: For when I cannot be bothered (399 words)

I have not used shop brought bolognese sauce for years because I like to make my own pasta sauces from scratch. Last week though I had a bad cold and could not be bothered with all the stirring and simmering so I decided to get a jar of Dolmio from the shop. The sauce is thicker than it used to be and sticks to the mince better while I am cooking it. I also noticed that there are big chunks of tomato in the bolognese sauce and these are obviously proper tomatoes. I remember there were only a few very small slimy chunks of tomato in Dolmio when I used to use it at least 5 years ago and these always seemed artificial like tinned tomatoes. The taste is ...  Read the complete review

I have to be honest when it come to making spaghetti bolognese I do tend to cheat and use a pre-prepared sauce mix and most of the time it is Dolmio that I opt for. It is more expensive than the supermarket own label brnds however I find that the sauce is thicker and has a richer flavou so it is worth the extra few pennies in my opinion. It comes in a glass jar and there are a couple of size options however I tend to go for the 500 gram option as even though I'm only cooking for the two of us I like to make extra and freeze it for later in the week. To prepare a bolognese all you have to do is fry the mince until it is browned and then in a large pan add ...  Read the complete review

I buy my Dolmio Original Bolognese sauce from Tesco for 1.38 for 500 gramms. I like to prepare pasta, but some time I am too tired to cook a decent sauce and I have to buy them from my local supermarket. The Dolmio one is not the best around, but it is quite cheap. It does not taste fresh, I mean, you can tell that they have put inside quite a few things to keep it preserved, but it does the trick. Here are the nutrients Nutrient per 100g Energy kCal 52 kCal Energy kJ 221 kJ Protein 1.7 g Carbohydrate 8.7 g Fat 1.2 g You can open the bottle and either warm up a bit of ...  Read the complete review

Dolmio sauces are pretty good value at the moment, I know its fairly easy to create your own but sometimes when you don't have the time, inclination or ingredients it is great to have a lovely sauce at your fingertips, this is just such a sauce. It is perfect for Spaghetti Bolognese or Lasagne. The Dolmio sauce comes in a 500g jar, with a dark green label, it is easily recognisable and its easy to see what your getting too, with the lovely rich sauce easily visible. The sauce is available at any supermarket and most corner shops, and generally there are some really good offers on. At the moment you can buy a jar for £1.70 or 2 for £3 at Tescos. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Dolmio Bolognese Sauce: Do More With Dolmio (455 words)

This is a good standard tomato sauce that I use in many of my vegan dishes. Often, I come home from work and faffing about is just not an option. The ingredients in the sauce are wholesome - so adding some vegetables like onion, garlic, pepper and courgette - and then some lentils can make a highly nutritious pasta meal. Price ------ The sauce can be bought from Tesco for £1.70 for 500g or £1.30 for 320g. I usually find that the smaller jar is quite adequate - but none of the larger jar gets wasted anyway - see recipe ideas further down. Packaging ------------ The sauce comes in a colour coordinated glass ...  Read the complete review
