Advantages: Rich and nice taste
Disadvantages: Few extra pennies in cost
I have to be honest when it come to making spaghetti bolognese I do tend to cheat and use a pre-prepared sauce mix and most of the time it is Dolmio that I opt for. It is more expensive than the supermarket own label brnds however I find that the sauce is thicker and has a richer flavou so it is worth the extra few pennies in my opinion.
It comes in a glass jar and there are a couple of size options however I tend to go for the 500 gram option as even though I'm only cooking for the two of us I like to make extra and freeze it for later in the week. To prepare a bolognese all you have to do is fry the mince until it is browned and then in a large pan add garlic, mushrooms, peppers, onions and I also add a tin of chopped tomatoes and again heat up and then add the Dolmio sauce and leave to simmer for fifteen to twenty minutes stirring every so often.
The sauce itself has a rich tomato flavour and it adds a lovely flavour to the meat. I also like the fact that it is a lot richer and thicker than some of the other sauces which also means it goes a lot further, if you want you can also add a little water to thin it out.
Summary: Bolognese sauce

- 21/01/08 I occasionally get these if they are on BOGOFF to keep in the cupboard for when I am too lazy or pushed for time to make my own - still prefer my homamde version though |

- 21/01/08 I used to use ready made sauces, but don't really see the point now - cheaper to make your own, and don't need all that salt that these preprepared ones have in! |
