Advantages: Really Tasty

Disadvantages: A Little But More Expensive Than Other Brands

I like to cook Spaghetti Bolognese for my husband but to be perfectly honest I can never be bothered to make the sauce from scratch so I always buy it. Dolmio make one of the best pasta sauces you can buy. I first bought a jar when I saw one of their famous adverts one TV it said something along the lines of everybody loving Dolmio so I decided to give it a try.

Seeing as it is a brand name Dolmio Spaghetti Bolognese Sauce is a bit more expensive than Tesco's version but I think it's worth the price as it really is very nice. I bought a 500g jar for £1.33 from Tesco which isn't too bad. The jar is clear so you can see the dark red sauce inside it. It has a bright green lid and a red label around the middle of the jar. On the label at has the Dolmio logo and a picture of some tomatoes. On the back of the label are the ingredients, nutritional information and the cooking instructions.

The ingredients are:
Tomatoes (76%), Tomato Puree (14%), Lemon Juice, Onion, Sugar, Olive Oil, Salt, Basil, Garlic, Herbs, Parsley, Spices

As you can see there are no nasty additives lurking in this sauce, every single ingredient is one that can be easily recognised, always a good sign.

Per 125g (1/4 of a jar) there are:
Calories 61 3.0%,
Sugar 7.4g 8.2%,
Fat 1.7g 2.5%,
Saturates 0.3g 1.3%,
Salt 1.4g 23.7%

As you can see this isn't too bad for you except for the salt level which is very high considering that this is only a sauce and not the meal itself. On the positive side though it is:
Free From Artificial Colour, Free From Artificial Flavours, Free From Artificial Preservatives, Suitable for Vegetarians

For those of you who know how to cook spaghetti Bolognese just add it where you'd normally add sauce, if you don't know though then here's a rough guideline:
Fry the mince until it has gone brown
Add the other things for the meal I think peppers and mushrooms are good
Keep them all heated up on a medium to low heat
Now add the sauce
Let it all cook together for about 15minutes
(Don't forget to make the spaghetti!!!!)

The sauce has a very tomato like smell to it with just a hint of herbs, mainly basil and parsley. It tastes really nice as well, this is important as the sauce is the main source of taste in spaghetti Bolognese. It tastes just as it smells and is a nice thick sauce unlike some varieties which seem to run everywhere. This stays where you put it and tastes great with the meat and the vegetables.

Overall I give it 10 out of 10 because although it may be a little most costly it is totally worth it for the rich taste.

Summary: Really Great Sauce, Recommended
