Advantages: .

Disadvantages: .

My kids (and the hubby too for that matter) are not very adventerous eaters. They often tend to stick to what they know that they like, usually something and chips/potato waffles. I get really bored of this and often try to introduce some new food to their palette. Often without much sucess, its usually a case of "I don't like that!" even though they hae never tried it!!

Well pasta is a firm favorite in our house and we often have it 2-3 times a week. We usually have pasta and cheese sauce or some kind of tomato and herb sauce. I recently saw Dolmio pasta bakes advertised on TV and the following day I purchased a jar from my local Kwik Save. I was not entirely convinced that this meal would be a hit with the children but anything is worth a try once.

Packaging
---------------
This is the Dolmio Pasta Bake sauce and it comes in a 500g jar and is easily recognised as a Dolmio sauce by the bright green lid and label. On the front of the label there is a picture of the prepared meal and the Dolmio logo. This is a glass jar.

Nutritonal Information
------------------------------
I wont bore you with all the info just the important stuff....how many calories and fat does it have?
Per 100g there are 55 k/cal and 1.2g of fat. So not a really bad diet choice although with 8.8g of carbohydrates, those of you on the atkins will want to give it a miss!

Ingredients.
----------------
There is nothing on the label to suggest that this product may contain nuts however for those of you for whatever reason be it religious or for health matters this product does contain White wine. I have no idea if this would be a problem but thought I should mention it.

Preparation.
----------------
Okay enough of the boring stuff! How do you cook this meal? Basically you just cook 375g of any kind of pasta according to the directions on the packet. Once cooked, drain the pasta and transfer into an ovenproo
f dish. Empty the contents of the jar over the top of the pasta, give it a little mixing and then cover with grated cheese. Cook in an oven pre heated to 200c/400f/gas mark 6 for around 20 minutes and then enjoy!
This meal is so quick and simple to prepare, I often put the pasta on to cook, do a little housework, come back and prepare the dish and stick it in the oven whilst I am doing other things. No real checking or stirring is needed like some pasta dishes.

The taste.
--------------
We purchased the creamy tomato version of the sauce but there are others available. The only other one I have seen is Tomato and Cheese but our local Kwik Save has a really limited selection of most things, so you may want to have a look in a larger supermarket. I will update this section when I have more information.
Once cooked this meal is lovely. The cheese on top of the pasta goes nice and crispy whilst cooking and stops the pasta from burning. It smells great, really cheesy and just enough tomato to make your mouth water without it being overpowering. To taste, it is divine, really creamy and with a slight twist to it provided by the herbs and onions contained in the sauce. All 5 of us managed to have a rather generous portion of the meal and we all found it hard to clear our plates. It is very filling. Most importantly, my children enjoyed it too, which is a huge relief for me. Since the first time we used this sauce we have had it a couple more times. I used a different pasta once and I found that I had used too much, this made the meal quite dry, try to ensure you use the right amount.

We will definately be buying more of these sauces and at the price of £1.05 they are a great buy.
