Advantages: Tasty, natural product
Disadvantages: No clear nutritional info
I was in the supermarket this week, trying to find items which are less fatty and lower GI to snack on at my desk during the day. I find that I need something to graze on mid morning and afternoon just to break the day up and ensure I am spreading my weight watchers points across the day as I should be.
I saw these triple pack boxes of bars that I have sometimes purchased loose from shops like Holland & Barrett and while I hadnt tried this particular version before I thought it would be worth giving it a go while they were on special offer in Sainsbury's (£1.50 for the box of 3 where usually I pay 75p per bar).
I bought one into work with me today for the first time, now one thing which does annoy me about these bars and seems as true for the multipack variety as for the loose ones, is a distinct lack of any actual nutritional info on the bar itself, it tells you the per 100g weight fat (but not sat fat) and does not have the weight of the bar on it anywhere or a per bar breakdown, I always end up checking on their website to figure out the actual values and I can tell you that this particular variety is not on the website either.
A rough calculation based on the limited info I have would suggest that this bar is around 3.5 ww points which is quite high for a snack but means it will definitely fill me up til my teatime.
One thing I really do like is the taste, despite the fact I dont much like fresh yoghurt, the coating on this tastes quite creamy and has a consistency much like white chocolate, it does tend to crumble so careful if you are eating on the run. The almond and apricot bits are substantial and the overwhelming flavour is the apricot. Very tasty indeed.
Holding together all the relative bits, there is like a standard cereal mix of rice and flakes which is fairly dry, the bar is quite chewy but a pleasent texture, not sticky at all. I think they have been very generous with the apricots.
Having eaten it I am now completely stuffed and will be able to resist temptation in my next meeting and stay away from the biscuits in there (this was strategic snacking you see!). The nice thing is that I feel like I have had a proper treat but I know that I have eaten a naturally made and sourced product and not a load of processed junk.
I will certainly be buying these againg for work snacks, I just wish I could get a clearer picture of the per bar nutritional values!
Summary: A better alternative to cakes and biscuits
