Advantages: a million+1 things you can do with them
Disadvantages: high in cholestorol
I love fast foods of all kinds, and eggs are definately in the top 5 if not number one spot in my book.
My family have 5 chickens in the back garden and always have fresh eggs at the ready if there is ever an egg emergency.
What i mean by that is if there's none in the fridge and i can't be bothered to go all the way to the supermarket! Although if all the chickens in England dried up, i imagine that would also be classed as an egg emergency!
My dad made the Chicken house and run all by himself with some wood, tools and good old fashioned hard work.
The chickens are allowed out in the garden every day, but 3 of them won't leave their house if there is snow!
My dad is a chickenologist now, if you have any questions about eggs or chickens - he will have the answer. (Apart from - how do chickens wee?)
He originally decided to get the chickens in the summer when he calculated that he would actually save money, but as it turns out, one of the chickens is ill and they've had to make two vet visits already. Also, they have far too many eggs now so give a lot away to family and neighbours rather than eat them (probably due to the fact there are 5 of them!)
They are a nice addition to the family though, and at least you know your eggs are really fresh and that the chickens have a good quality of life. I think my dad gets alot of satisfaction and a sense of achievement each morning when he goes to their house and brings back fresh eggs.
Maybe its a psychological thing but i personally notice the difference between fresh eggs and supermarket eggs, and sometimes they pop out double-yolkers!
My favourite egg recipe is Omelette. I am a firm believer that the smell of an omelette cooking is an unbeatable one!
I fry a slice of bacon in the pan, sometimes with onions, mix up the eggs with milk and pour it in, then when its cooked put some sliced tomatoes on top with grated cheese, then grill.
Hmmmm!
There are loads of things you can do with eggs. Scrambled eggs, poached eggs, eggy bread, boiled egg sandwiches, egg and soldiers, fried egg on toast or with a greasy english breakfast... what CAN'T you do with an egg or two??
Summary: Irreplaceable, multi-functional, fridge must-have
